Every year in July we have the biggest Schuetzenfest /Marksmen's Fair of the world in Hannover. Highlight is the imposing parade of the local shooting clubs, music bands and dancing groups. Since the 17th century this parade was held almost every year.
Together with this parade there is a a top-class funfair for 10 days with roller coasters and beer-tents.
There are also traditional ceremonies assossiated with the marksmen, that haven been cultivated by the local people for 475 years. The 475th anniversary has been celebrated in 2004.
MacGowan's Irish Pub
by Mirja about MacGowan's Irish Pub
If you are in the search for an Irish Pub in Hannover, pick this one!! This pub, owned by Shay and Geraldine MacGowan, '...is reknown for it's Live-Music and friendly atmosphere'(quote from official homepage). They also offer the best drafted pint of Guinness you will find in Germany!! If you decide to come during the Cebit (largets computer fair), which is normally in March, be sure to come early, and don't be claustrophobic! By the way, Shay and Geraldine have moved to Mallorca meanwhile, but it is still the best place in town to have a nice pint! Except for on Halloween there is no particular dresscode. Just as you please...
A good place to chill out...
by Xinta about Market Hall
I thought this Market Hall is a good place to chill out. If you want to find some place warm after walking?for a couple of hours in this cold weather - feeling cold and hungry and thirsty, it is a good place to be.? ;-) You can get quite a fair bit of typical German food and drinks here. ;-)

Gründerzeit
by Leipzig
During the "Gründerzeit" (1830-1915)Hannover's industry boomed and the city became attractive as working place. More and more people streamed into the town and a lot of Gründerzeit-buildings, like the one in the photo, were built. During the Second World War almost two thirds of the buildings were destroyed and only a few were rebuilt.
