    Hotel Harmony

    by

This is a simple, unpretentious hotel not far from the station, maybe a fifteen- or twenty-minute walk. It is in a mixed neighborhood with small apartment buildings interspersed with shops and small office buildings from various decades.

On the street leading to the hotel there are no fewer than three dancing schools of various sorts (but my impression is that they really are dancing schools, not what you’re thinking). Across from the hotel is a former gas station which used to be used as a small theater and is now standing empty.

The hotel itself is quite basic, but I had nothing to complain about. I had a single room with breakfast for two nights, costing 45 Euros per night.

Second photo: To get to the breakfast room you have to go through the small parking lot, following this elaborate pointer in the tiled wall. Breakfast is served not in the hotel itself, but in an adjoining building in a room which looks like a tired and run-down cocktail lounge with the faded charm of the 1950s.

Third and fourth photos: A block from the hotel there is a professional-looking bicycle shop. I did not use it, however, because I simply checked out a NextBike on the street for a full day and evening.

The university hospital is probably your best bet.

Depends what you exactly want or need.
Most hospitals have a 24 hours service but only for emergencies.
I.e. if you break your leg you can go to the hospital and are treated at any time. If the cast has just to be renewed this is no emergency and you won't find a place for this at after hours.

For some tasks you have to go also rather to a medical practice of a specialist (Ortophöde) in Germany than to a hospital. Hospitals are mainly for surgeries which can only be made there, i.e. esp. the ones where you need to stay in hospital for some time.

You could call or mail any hospital.
There should be also an international pharmacy in Hannover. You can ask there, they should know which one is the right one.

They have also pages in English

but not for their orthopaedy department. But again mail or call them. It could be that this place would be the totally overkill for what you need.

A colourful Mexican place

by sabsi about Sausalitos

This chain restaurant seems to be the new favourite of Hannover's youth at weekends. Might be because of their happy hour with half price cocktails between 11 and midnight. During the week it's emptier. The service can be really really friendly (unless they ask an Irishman whether he is an English squaddy ;), it can also be really really slow at times. Burritos with Chicken Fajita filling and chips, very tasty!

Old Town

by nepalgoods

There is not much left of old Hannover. Most of it has been destroyed during World War II. But what is left is very nice. Many of the half timbered buildings, which you can see in our Old Town, had been on another place before WWII. After the war the houses have been moved and rebuilt in this part of Hannover.

Today there are many pubs and restaurants and nice little shops in our Old Town.

Nearby is also the former castle of the Kings of Hannover. This castle "Leineschloss" is now the location of the parliament of Lower Saxony.
