What to do?

by Lienem

I`m going to be in Hannover, Germany beginning of November. Will not have a lot of free time, but anyway... What interesting to see/do there?
thanks in advance!

you have to be aware that November is the part of the year which guarantees the crappiest weather when travelling in Central Europe. So most of the outdoor options are tricky. Still, should you have a sunny day you could try the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen or see the zoo - it was remodelled as part of the Expo five years ago and the result is very nice. But... November!

If you like modern art, visit the Sprengel Museum. Or take a stroll through the old town - you can combine this with shopping. If it´s cold and you are a chocolate afficionado, try a hot chocolate in the "Holländische Kakaostube". Could give you better advice if I knew where your interests are

November is not the best time to visit Hannover, indeed, but if the weather is nice, visit the Herrenhäuser Gärten and perhaps the Maschsee, which is oposite the Sprengel Museum. One nice restaurant - should be the Grüne Pelikan (Podbielskistr. 143a) in a renovated factory, not too cheap , but it is not in the direct city center.

Lots of clubs and bars in Hannover, so that is always an option at night. Most clubs are around Steintor (the U-Bahn stop)..bars are spread out everywhere (I like Gelbe Seiten at Raschplatz in back of the train station and Heim-W on Luisenstr. near Hauptbahnhof). I agree with previous posts, so I won't repeat!

Travel Tips for Hannover

Caiprinha cocktail

by orlikins

The Caiprinha cocktail seems to be unique to Hannover,(well ok, maybe Brazil) for I have never ever seen it or tried it throughout my travels. :) And I've been to plenty of bars around Europe to suss this out! It's deceptively easy to drink, oh I really want one now ...

It's made from freshly squeezed lime juice, crushed ice and Cachaca rum and brown sugar and it tastes like a lime mimosa :)

by chancay about JAZZ-CLUB HANNOVER

Although I live already several years here it was the first time for me in the Hannover jazz-Club....and it was FANTASTIC. I had the big luck to see a great combo, the SEBASTIAN-SCHUNKE-QUINTETT. They played wonderful together and I was so surprised about those famous musicians playing here together in this little club. NENE VASQUEZ, percussions, won a Grammy!!!, played with Shakira, Celia Cruz and several more, EL INDIO, trumpet and sax, FELIPE CABRERA, bass, 2 times Grammy nominated, LUKMIL PEREZ HERRERA, drums and ANDERS NILSSON at the guitar. casual

They serve quite good food. But I like this pub mainly because of the live-music they have about 3 times a week. The music ranges from Jazz to coffee-house-music. It is always very crowded with anice atmosphere. I normally don#t eat in Philharmonie, the beer is good.

New Town Hall

by Leipzig

The new town hall is the residence of the mayor. It was constructed between 1901 - 1913. The doors of the Townhall are always open to all visitors and you can enter the dome of the town hall.

Opening times: daily from 10am to 4pm.

by Hosell

This is the New Town hall of Hannover, visitors are quite astonished to hear that the magnificent building they are standing in front of is, actually, the "new" townhall. A very big part of the building and also almost all the whole city were destroyed during the second world war.

The new townhall is the residence of the mayor, the head of the municipal administration. Don't miss a visit inside the building, sometimes there are very interesting expositions and also you can see how the city and also the building was destroyed in the war.
