Don't miss the Sprengel Museum..
This is a museum of 20th century art -- based on the generosity of Herr Sprengel. It includes many "installation pieces" including Karl Schwitters "Merzbau".
The museum itself is an interesting space, whether you like contemporary art or not!
Staatsoper Hannover is one of the best opera houses of Germany. Spectacular performances like a very modern and much discussed "Don Giovanni" amde it known all over Germany and even in the US. It is one of the top 20 opera houses in the world!
The big opera house is a building made by famous architect Laves.
Tiedhof - Besitos
a new Spanish restaurant and bistro in the rooms of the ex Market, a restaurant that already closed in 2004.
The place is parted in a big hall with a really big bar in the middle of the room and tables all around and a smaller room near the entrance with some smaller tables for drinks only.
The menu card offers a selection of spanish tapas and some main dishes, saldas and more. I had only some tapas, quite yummy but very small portions respect to the prices.
See the "Herrenhäuser Gärten"
One of the main attractions of Hannover are the Herrenhausen gardens. The following text is taken from the official description of the gardens:
The baroque garden ensemble, one of the greatest and most beautiful in Germany, was founded in 1666 by Duke Johann Friedrich of Calenberg.
Its preservation and further development are owed mainly to one remarkable woman: Sophie, princess-elect of Hannover and mother of the first "Hanoveranian" on the English throne, was of English descent and needed a garden. And so the baroque ensemble was created, with trees, hedges, numerous special and model gardens, a great fountain with surrounding waterworks, mace garden, open air theatre, many statues and sculptures, cascades, a grotto and a palace (destroyed in 1943), gallery and orangery buildings. In 1936 the Great Garden was restored after being placed under Hannover's municipal administration.
To the north of the Great Garden we find the Berggarten (the Rock Garden), which used to be the utility or herbal garden for the court. Later it became a botanical garden
Just over the road from the Neues Rathaus a large man made, I think, lake. Good place for a walk along the shore or maybe all the way around if you've time and energy to spare. A pleasant hour or two for us.
