by jean_235

Me and my wife and going to arrive in Hannover September 28th for 3 complete days. My wife is interested in seeing many Castles, I understand there are many castles close to Hannover or a quick rail ride.. Do you know if it is possible to takes tours from Hannover to visit some castles? Thank you very much.

Most interesting is the Marienburg Castle

Actually there are not that many castles in this region. And these are rather palaces. No medieval hill-top castles. Alone for the lack of hills in the nearer surroundings of Hannover.

I reside at Hannover for two years now and usually show my visitors the Marienburg approx. 20 minutes by car from Hannover, and Bueckeburg (approx one hour by highway). But the guided Marienburg tour with one hour is rather short and in German only, and the Bueckeburg tour is very short and only shows a few nice rooms (no bed room for example). But you can take a walk in the park, and visit the burial place of former counts (pay extra). Bueckeburg has a train station, Marienburg would be better by rental car, since it is a bit remote.

Gehry Tower

by nepalgoods

Since 2001 Hannover has a new attraction: the twisted Gehry Tower. This 8 storey high-rise building is named after famous American architect Frank O. Gehry, who has also built the Zollhof in Duesseldorf.

Gehry Tower is located near our Red Light District.

Use the Üstra

by Bigs

The Üstra U-Bahn is the public transport in Hannover...As the sights are not all close by each other (especially the Herrenhäuser Gärten) I would recommend to buy a day ticket for 3,10 €! This allows you to take the tram in the closer city center....

Food and architecture

by sabsi about Chinese Restaurant 'Dynastie'

Lovely building, the restaurant is inside a pyramid made of steel and green glass. Make sure you sit on upper floor, especially when it's raining heavily! For starters they serve lovely spring rolls. And the main course I always choose is Crispy Chicken with Peanut Sauce (yummy!!!)

Ernst-August Monument

by nepalgoods

The place in front of the Main Trainstation is very nice. This statue of the former King of Hannover is THE meeting point. We say, that we meet "under the tail" = "Unterm Schwanz". The inscription on the basis reads: "Dem Landesvater sein treues Volk" - "The loyal people to the Vather of the Country". The statue is made with money, which the citizens of Hannover donated.

Ernst August lived from 1771 to 1851 and was King of Hannover from 1837 to 1851.
