New Years Eve

by TaraHare

Hello,

We are coming to Hannover for New Years Eve and wondered what there was to do. Do we need to book a restaurant in advance? Do people celebrate on the streets at midnight?

Any information would be useful.

Thanks

- Do we need to book a restaurant in advance? Yes, you do! It may even be too late now.
- Do people celebrate on the streets at midnight? Yes, they do.Firework and celebration.

Thanks for that. One further question, where do people go? To the Lake or in town?

Hi,

Sorry but I only read your question now. Well, people meet everywhere at midnight as many will set fireworks etc. The lake will be quieter I think. It´s usual to celebrate on the streets where you party, no special place to meet I would say, maybe the city center around the Opera..

if you have more questions please mail to bigs99@gmx.de or to my vt mail.
Have a nice stay in Hannover!!

Travel Tips for Hannover

Rathaus, Town Hall, built in...

by Burtty

Rathaus, Town Hall, built in 1901-1913 The city hall was built in a grand style. Inside the city hall, you can see the models to illustrate the development of the city and you can also understand how the city was destroy in WWII and how it was rebuilt. You can take the interesting elevator to the top of the tower in a curved way. From there, the view of Hannover was beneath you. Especially looking at the back side of the city hall, you can enjoy the beautiful view of Maschsee. We also enjoyed our walk around the pond at the back of the city hall.

Buddhists in Hannover

by nepalgoods

Beside the Pagoda there are quite a few Buddhist groups in Hannover. The Buddhistischer Bund Hannover e.V. (BBH) is a group of Germans mainly interested in Theravada Buddhism. For further information contact www.buddha-hannover.de

That map shows you how to reach the BBH

Trains are the best form of...

by mmcnie

Trains are the best form of European transport, but Hannover also has a nice airport with easy public transport to the city.
Public Transport is fantastic. Trains and busses are clean, safe, and run almost 24 hours. A day ticket costs around 3 Euros and that will take you anywhere in the Hanover region. Another alternative (which will make you feel part of the culture) is to rent a bike. Extensive bike paths run everywhere in the city and also take you through some nice forested areas.

Good food in the city centre

by sabsi about Piazza Navona

Very good value. It's in the middle of Hannover's nightlife area and just behind the railway station at an ugly square called Raschplatz. The prices are very low considering where you are!!! The Pasta with Peas and cream sauce is very very tasty. So is the Pasta arrabbiata.

Old town hall and market church

by Typ88

"Marktkirche" and "Altes Rathaus"

The "Marktkirche" (market church) and the "Altes Rathaus" (old city hall), our fifth stop, are also situated in the Old Town. The oldest part of the Alte Rathaus was built in 1410.

The Marktkirche was built in the 14th century and got partly destroyed in World War II - but it was rebuilt in 1952. The tower of the church is shorter than it was supposed to be: during the building of it, they ran out of money and so they just put a roof on the unready tower.
