British Counsel Hannover

by mtandon

Hello,

I would like to know if there is any facility in Hannover to have a UK visa issued for yoursel? If not, which is the closest city to Hannover where I will have to post / personally visit to issue a UK visa for myself?

Thanks!
Mansi

p.s.- I will be on a Schengen Visa and that<s the reason I need a UK visa to travel to the UK.

Re: British Counsel Hannover

Seems that only the UK consulates in Berlin, Dusseldorf and Munich issue UK visas.
Please see this link for more info.

Make sure your Schengen is multiple or you have a spare one if you plan to return to the Continent after UK!

Travel Tips for Hannover

visit the Aegidienkirche....

by shrimp56

visit the Aegidienkirche.
Below is sabsi's translation of this page 'http://62.1 5.18.85/sehenswuerdigkeiten/aegiedienkirche.htm
The bombed cathedral of Coventry (Great Britain) gave Hannover the idea not to rebuild the Aegidienkirche which was destroyed during an air raid in 1943 but to use it as a memorial for the victims of war and violence. In the remains of the baroque and gothic church, which is overgrown by wine and ivy, there is a replica of the peace bell from Hannover's twin town Hiroshima. Every year on 6th of August it rings - as a remembrance of the consequences the first atomic bomb released on the Japanese port in the year 1945 had. In the 'living' ruin chimes from the year 1958 play folk songs and chorales four times a day - their melody changes with the seasons and events.

Best creamy hot chocolate ever!

by vanessadb

If you come to Hannover, you'll most probably experience cold grey rainy weather. If that's not the case, consider yourself lucky. Anyway, on one of those days, I can only recommend that you go to the Holländische Kakao-Stube in the city center, an old-fashioned tea-room, where you can taste the best warm chocolate ever and delicious cakes and pies. Don't freak out if it is full of old ladies when you come in, they are a clear sign that all the sweets served are to die for!

Jump on the first free table you see, and do head to the "bar" before you order to see what their cakes and pies of the day are. Then go back to your table, order the Wiener Schokolade (hot chocolate with cream and chunks of delicious chocolate on top) and the cake that made you salivate the most.

If the waitress is not nice, which will probably happen, don't even bother. Your chocolate and pie is worth your presence there. Just don't leave her tip!

Busy all day long

by sabsi about Mezzo

A place which is crowded from when they open in the morning til when they close at night! We had a nice little VT meeting here one morning when Sally (Shrimp56) and her husband were over and we went for a coffee and a coke ;)

Pasta al dente please!

by vanessadb about Fratelli la Bufala

I have tried many Italian restaurants in Hannover but was always disappointed when I got my pasta overcooked. It might be silly, but for me pasta al dente is a clear sign of authentic italian food, which I finally found at Fratelli La Bufala, a typical charming italian restaurant one block away from the Lister Meile street. The pizza is also excellent, cooked in their stone oven.

The atmosphere is nice and trendy too (the restaurant has been freshly renovated), the manager and waiters very friendly and very italian =) All the pastas, all the pizzas!

Aegidienkirche

by Burtty

St. Gile's Church, built in the 14the century. The church itself has been destroyed since the world war II. Only the ragged wall stands there now. The picture was taken from the top of the city hall.
