Pension Siebertal: B&B in an amazing part of Germany!
We found this Bed and Breakfast online while looking for an apartment to rent. About a 3 hour drive from Frankfurt, it's in an area of Germany I had no idea existed. It's in the Harz mountains, certainly no Alps but a great area if you want to enjoy some peace and quiet and just hang out, take walks in the forest etc.
Although i don't ski I am told it's only about 7 km from some great ski and snowboarding in the winter.
The rooms are fairly rustic, but clean and in great shape. There is a central TV viewing area downstairs as well as a small bar with great drink prices!
Prices are fantasic, we only paid 20€ a night for a double twin, with it's own bathroom! Breakfast was good, typical bread and meats, cheeses, jams, tea and coffee, musli, yogart. The owner will do up eggs, etc if you want it, and in the evening you can get hot meals, spaghetti, chili, burgers, fries etc.
We we there in late Sept of this year and the fall colors of the mountains/forest were really amazing. We slept in, took walks, visited some of the local sites during the day and then sat and had a drink or two at night. It was a really nice change of pace.
The owner is English speaking, which is great for those of us who haven't been in Germany long.
I would reccomend this accomodation for anyone who wants to put the TV away, get out into the country and just relax!
Fantastic views of the Harz mountains. It's located in a tiny town outside Herzberg, so almost no traffic and is very quiet. A small river runs through it, and there are paths all over to walk.
