The Rathaus by Colzy
This is one of the main buildings situated in the markt. Between the years 1246-1290 the original Rathaus was erected. It maintaind its gothic style despite renovations of later periods. On the 22nd March 1945 the building was demolished due to bombing raids and only a very modest Hall was rebuilt. However, in the late eighties the Rathaus was rebuilt according to its original plans. The structure was once considered to be one of the most beautiful half-timbered buildings in Germany.
The fountain in front of the Rathaus, the Marktbrunnen, was the only thing in the modern markt that survived the bombings.
