Nice and not too pricey
I scored a good rate off Expedia for our 4-star stay here. Hildesheim hotels tend to be expensive and cater to the coach tour crowds. The Dorint Novotel though is in a restored castle (or academy?). Something handsome in stone, anyway. It all seemed fairly new or recently restored (a running theme in this city) and we felt quite posh-ette.
It's about five minutes from the edge of the historic core of the city, with some decent restraurants, cafes and ice cream joints close by. We paid 49 euros at the time for a double room, excluding breakfast.
Unique Quality: You're in a castle-like structure in a park, far removed from traffic noise.
The telly had BBC World News, it's always nice to hear the news from home.
Pets are welcome. Most rooms are non-smoking. There are only two floors with lots of thickly padded corridors to absorb the noise of everyone's comings and goings.

I've never slept there because I'm living nearby, but friends of me who stayed there wer very satisfied. I went to some parties into the hotel. They always have been very good.
