Altes Kaufhaus is located on the north-east corner of the harber on river Ilmenau next the Old Crane and the Lueneburger Muehle mill. There the salted herringswere stored. The building was a victum of an arson(1960) and only its Baroque facade, built in 1748, remained untouched.
I am currently studying in Lueneburg and I love this beautiful city! It is a great student town with a popution of about 68,000 of which at least 10,000 are students. The town was build over a huge source of salt and is rich in history. Being only a 1/2 hour from Hamburg, its the perfect location for relaxing and taking in a smaller town whle still being able to travel to a large city at any time. I love it here!
