Osnabrück Tip

Playing Lego with my friends from midnight until 4:30 in the morning! The sound of searching for a certain piece in a whole box full of Lego (the biggest collection I've ever seen) brought back many great memories... And we built new ones!!

We drove through Osnabruck after a stay in Thülsfelder Talsperre, a place where my hubby has many memories. Thulsfelder Talsperre is close to Garrel.Near Garrel is a large moor or you can visit the Thulsfelder Talsperre, the only dam in the north of Germany. It is in the middle of the recreation area between the municipalities of Garrel and Molbergen and the cities Friesoythe and Cloppenburg. The dam was built in resolution of the state government of Oldenburg from 1924 to 1927 to prevent the agricultural grounds from regurlar flooding during wintertime.Quite fast this area became a beautiful lake with valuable biotopes for plant and animal world. With is numerous bays it is as if you are visiting the Scandinavian coastline. Panoramic heather-covered wastelands, sanddunes and forest makes this place a good vacation resort.Other attractions are: the zoo in Thule, the airfield for small airplanes in Varrelbusch and a golf area in Neumuhlen.Nicolasdorf is in the north of Garrel and wears its name with proud. Every year thousands of letters are answered here written by little children and adressed to Saint Nicolas. The name actually goes back to Nicolas Peter Friedrich, Great duke of Oldenburg. In the fields around Garrel is a part that is called America. In the old days it was very difficult to pass through this part of the moor and people often said it was as hard as a journey to America. That is how they came to name this part of the moor America.
