Travel Tips for Wolfsburg

This sign is on the car park...

This sign is on the car park in front of the Autostadt - you better do what it says!!! 'If I stood in front of your door with a Lamborghini, Ultralight, horse,... would you still come with me?' and questions like that for lunch!

This is a great museum about the history of cars. It starts from the very beginning with all the weird and wonderful cars from before 1900. Later you see the first Cadillacs (gorgeous!), lots of beetles (including the 1000000th beetle - in its golden disco outfit!!!), great cars from the 50s, ugly ones from the 70s etc etc.

For kids (and people like me that never grow up) there's one part full of funny experiments... here you can steer cars with solar energy or make experiments about aerodynamics. It's great to make kids understand how a car works - and better than a playground ;-)

PartyRambo's new Wolfsburg Page

Wolfsburg is the home of Volkswagen. That'a about all one needs to say about the town of 130,000 - more than 50% of the population works for VW!

The factory is the biggest single employer, building, and power generator in the city - in fact, the privately-owned VW power plant actually provides electrical power to the entire city.

Take a look a the photo - I've circled the plant on the overall city map & then zoomed in to show the size of it compared to its surroundings.

Volkswagen has the only private railway spur off the German national railroad system, and it is the largest private rail system in the world.
I only spent an afternoon in Wolfsburg, and I only stopped to see if there was a VW museum in town - I was pleasantly surprised to find the 250,000-square metre AutoStadt ("Auto City"), an enormous, multi-brand sales, information and museum centre, on the factory grounds.
Admission is 24 DM (12 Euros), but well worth a few hours' time.
There are multiple pavilions, each dedicated to a brand name owned by Volkswagen AG, such as VW, Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, but also Bentley and Lamborghini.
