I live in Aachen at the moment, and as far as I know, you will need to be German citizen for any purchase of handgun, blank or not!
German Police won't hand you guns just like that.. ask in the Polizei Prezidium of Kerkerade Strasse, opposite Tivoli complex.
The actual historical centre of Aachen is quite compact and is ideal for just wandering and everything is well signposted. To get out and about a little further, which is actually not particularly interesting for the general tourist, there's plenty of these easy-to-read street maps dotted around.
Here's the one from the forecourt of the railway station.
Go to the Hofgarten for a drink and a meal. Very good value, large portions, great food! Friendly atmosphere and waiters - what more do you need?! (The Hofgarten is nextdoor to the Domkeller, near the Marktplatz) I used to live and study here for one year, so I missed the palce a lot when I left. I made so many great friends and had a brilliant time. The Marktplatz at Christmas is lovely - the smell of all those roast chestnuts and the Gluehwein - yum!
The Aachen city guide told us the story behind this cute sculpture of children playing. The little girl in the middle was desperate not to play anymore so she could go to the toilet...but her playmates wouldn't let her out of the ring...and hence she ended up with wet trousers :-S
The bronze figure out- side shows a girl with a large piece of gingerbread. This "printe" is a trademark of the local bakers and you will find it in the shops everywhere. So try some of the local Aachen bread its delicious :-)
11 bands playing in 11 pubs and clubs and once you have bought your ticket (9 Euro) you can enjoy all kinds of music played by (mostly) local bands.
You discover some new locations, hear great music and have a lot of fun. Some pubs are quite small so make sure you're there early if you really want to listen to a certain band.
