Gerry Weber Open

by lcat61

Are there any interesting tourist attractions in Halle? I might be coming for the Gerry Weber Open.

Not exactly a major tourist destination.
Halle/Westfalen city brochure (in German)

Halle/Westfalen is 15 km from Bielefeld.

Hi!

You can also try the Beersel Moated Castle and Braine-le-Château. There is also a very nice basilica called "Basilica of Our Lady" Onze-Lieve-Vrouwbasiliek.

Once you are there you can also ask for sightseeing boat trips and the Valley of the Birds "Vallée des Oiseaux

Have a nice trip!

Sarah

Vallée des Oiseaux in Bielefeld? Onze-Lieve-Vrouwbasiliek in Bielefeld? I think you're talking about a different Bielefeld, Sarah.

Maybe about THE Bielefeld that does not even exist?

Hm, tourist attractions would be too much of an exaggeration... But there are some cute towns and areas you might have a look at.

Bielefeld is OK to go out there but not that much of a beautiful city. There is the castle Sparrenberg from where you have nice sight (www.sparrenburg-bielefeld.de). Someone already has mentioned the Teutoburger Wald (hilly forest area).

As a city I rather would recommend Muenster which is a cute medival town. You might have a glance at this website for some info: www.muenster.de/tourismus.html. The Münsterland area is nice, too.
There is also a touristic area around Muenster. Further info here: www.muensterland-tourismus.de/MTZen/index.html

Osnabrück would be same size like Muenster. They have big Jewish museum there that I know because of the architecture. Daniel Libeskind was the architect.

And there is the Martha Museum by architect Frank Gehry in Herford, which is next to Bielefeld.

Detmold is also a nice town, and with a huge open air museum of the rural life in early times - if that is of interest.
www.lwl.org/LWL/Kultur/LWL-Freilichtmuseum-Detmold/?lang=en

Also Rheada-Wiedenbrueck is a cute town, around 20 to 30 km from Halle, with many frameworked houses. An old farmers town. Wiedenbrueck has the nicer city, Rheda has a cute castle. Not many tourists, though.

If you have time for day or two-day trips. Bremen would be in reach, also with train you should have pretty a good connection to Dusseldorf and Cologne. Those both rather it into the tourist attractions catagory... But you'll need at least a whole day to do these.

Have a great time! Chris.

Bielefeld is the place where I live - come and meet me and my friends!
Let´s go for Sushi at the Rodin's, have a huge cocktail at the Sausalito's happy hour and go
dancing at the Paradiso on Fridays.
In summer there is a medevial market weekend at the Sparrenburg castle - it is great fun! Going for a walk in the forest, starting at the zoo and heading west...
- the Teutoburger Wald really is a good place for walks!
