Bochum has its own song. The writer and singer is Herbert Grönemeyer - some might know him as Lieutenant Werner the correspondent appearing in the famous film 'Das Boot'. But his real profession is musician. The song 'Bochum' is widely known in Germany and loads of people can sing along, especially here in the Ruhrpott.

Mining History, Billy Bragg and a VT Meeting

"Mining history"

Bochum lies in the middle of the Ruhr basin, Germany´s biggest industrial area. Mining has always been one of the main working fields over here.....

In Bochum you can find the wold biggest mining museum, and it´s really huge... I wandered around for a while.....Their biggest attraction is definately the remake of a ming gallery under the museum. One of the must sees in Bochum I would say.... Unfortunately I don´t know if there are guided tours in English....

Sabs and I went to Bochum on the 27th of september 2002 to see Billy Bragg playing in the "Matrix". It was a great concert and we also liked the place there....well not the gothic night party that went on later that evening, but the basement actually was very nice....

We sure had a short talk with the artist. When the lights suddenly went out, he said to me: "It´s dark now, shall we dance!! Hahah! Guess we all had a good time in Bochum....

Well, ok I can´t find a pic on my pc, but I also joined a VT Meeting here in Bochum. Sabs and I met Gili S, Bagillbaer and Horscheck there and spent some hours in the Bermudadreieck, Bochums centre of bars restaurants and pubs....
