Bad Godesberg
Bad Godesberg, a small town in Bonn. Its old castle, busy shopping area, theater....... all are attractive. Rhine is not far away, and it is worth to spend some hours in the little town of Bad Godesberg.

Bonn is simply a nice, quiet, happy German town. Like every other German town in existence, it's a college town. (Has anyone else noticed that? Every German city of even moderate size has a major college. Where do they get all the people to attend these schools?)
Anyway, here's the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität. It used to be a royal palace. Now it's filled with young Germans with Slayer T-shirts.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Go see the Heinrich Heine Memorial. Celebrating one of Germany's most beloved poets, this memorial sits beside the Rhine, and it's just really quite nice.
You might remember Heine as the author of "Lorelei", the first stanza of which is:
Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten
Daß ich so traurig bin;
Ein Märchen aus alten Zeiten
Das kommt mir nicht aus dem Sinn.
Roughly, and forgive my feeble attampts at translation, it means:
I don't know the reason
That I am so distressed;
A tale known for all seasons
Will not let me rest.

At the geographic heart of the Federal City of Bonn, in the centre of ‘New Bonn’, the district where most of the structural change has taken place, the Rheinaue Leisure Park extends. It covers a surface of 160 hectare, situated on the left and on the right bank of the Rhine and is nearly as large as the city centre of Bonn itself.
Go on a trip on the Rhine to experience Bonn from another beautful side.
The “Museum Mile” with the Museum of Modern German History and the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland and its impressing exhibitions has turned into a prime attraction in Bonn with over two million visitors a year.
The heritage of Ludwig van Beethoven, born here in 1770, has its obligations.
The 'International Beethoven Festival' has been establishing itself in the festival scenery. 'Rossija' is the motto of the Beethovenfest Bonn 2006 - (31st August until 1st October): 60 concerts and opera performances as well as the rich supporting programme.
Bonn Culture Summer
The City is its stage: concerts of World Music in the Market Square and the Summer Cinema in the Arcade Courtyard of the University are its central elements.
Well in this travelogue, I have no photos to add, only memories. I did not take a photo of the nice, handsome and tall, middle aged guy, who came to help us when nobody else could. This is a good as well as a bad memory that will last me for a lifetime and I was shocked, amazed and curious at the same time. It so happened that we were actually having a bad time finding our way and some of the places that we wanted to go and everytime I wanted to ask somebody, I started with "Sprechen Sie Englisch?" which means "Do you speak English?", every single time I got the reply, "Nein, nein." (No, no), and from people of all ages. I was frustrated and ashamed as well for not knowing German language well enough to find out the addresses without difficulty. As we were loitering in the Am Markt, dissappointed, we saw amidst the crowd, an extremely good looking, tall man of about 50 years of age, very well dressed, about to pass us by. My husband suggested that one last time we ask this guy, but I was reluctant as something inside me told me that I would get the same reply. But I dared, nonetheless. the same question again, but a different reply, "Yes, ofcourse I do". Wow, that was it. I was saved. Now I only wished that he knew the address that I was looking for. He not only knew that one, but also told me the directions to all the places of interest in the best possible way for me not to be required to ask anybody else for the entire tour. I was so pleased. I told him that, and he said, "Its my pleasure. Have a nice trip." This, I thought was the end of a very good experience that I would always remember, not knowing that within the next hour something was going to happen that would surely ensure that I never forgot this experience and this meeting, and finally this guy. We went to the Beethoven house as per his direction. Had no problems at all. As we were returning again through the crowded marketplace, my husband saw something, which my famous eyes could not see. He drew my attention towards a person in the crowd, pleading people to take some candles from him and pay him some money. I was shocked. The same guy. I looked at him, crossed him and still could not take my eyes off him. He finally looked at me and winked and started pleading to people again. Till date, I have not been able to figure out why I was shocked, and I guess I never will. But perhaps I will never forget this experience in my life. And just to ensure this, I put this up in my travelogue.
