Crowded city
by Rupanworld
Well I do not claim the authenticity of my conclusion but this was my experience. I found Bonn very very crowded, it was infact difficult to move along the roads. It may be that I was there one month before Christmas, but to me it did not look like crowded with tourists. I actually thought it was a very crowded city compared to all other cities that I have been to in Germany.
Fame, Food, Fabulous Views
by RhineRoll about Cafe Rheinlust
The Rheinlust is a popular hangout for a mixed clientele. It's become something of a celebrity spot since its owner Alex Jolig reached nationwide fame through the first reality soap "Big Brother". There are however more reasons to come here. The location right on the Rhine Promenade is excellent, and (if you manage to get a space) you can sit outside in the beer garden. The food is quite decent, the pricing okay. They also have pub grub and finger food for all those who just want something to go along with the Kölsch.
A enjoyable mixture of neighborhood restaurant, student pub, celebrity hangout
Cathedral
by prleprle
Bonn’s Munster Basilica (Cathedral)is one of the most fully-developed creations of the Rhenish transition style from the Romanesque to the Gothic period. Its building history reaches far back into the time of the early Christianity at the Rhine.
Around 400 A.C., a small church hall was erected here over the graves of city patrons Cassius and Florentius, and in the middle of the 11th century it was replaced by a basilica with a length of 70 metres and three naves. Reconstruction began in the middle of the 12th century. It was around that time when the Romanesque cloister was built.
The Munster Basilica with its five towers and the powerful crossing tower forms part of Bonn’s silhouette still today.
It experienced two king-crowning ceremonies: Friedrich der Schone (Friedrich the Beautiful) was crowned in 1314, and Karl IV. was crowned here in 1346. Next to many other works of art it is possible to see the Magdalena altar made of marbled wood, the little wooden figure of the holy Martin, the baptismal font from the 12th century and a sitting Madonna today.
Deutsches Museum Bonn
by Nemorino
This is a small but interesting museum of science and technology, with numerous hands-on exhibits.
In the photo, for instance, you can alter a picture of the Market Square in Bonn by pedaling faster or slower on a bicycle, to see what this familiar place would look like if it were moving at various percentages of the speed of light.
Open Tuesday through Sunday from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Bonn - the former capital of Germany
by chicaalemana
I am currently working in Bonn. It is the former Capital of Germany and a rather small city given the just mentioned fact! It is very green, not in winter though ;), nice park areas along the river Rhine, that invite for walking, all kinds of sports etc.
