Mmm... bratwurst...
by DrewV
It's not a restaurant per se, but I'll never forget the little bratwurst place on Friedenplatz (but don't quote me on Friedenplatz -- it's certainly in the neighbourhood). Anyway, since Bonn was my first stop in Germany, it was the site of my first truly authentic German bratwurst experience. Prior to my arrival in the Fatherland, I had only had American imitations -- pale imitations as it turns out. I received a simple grilled brat, served on a simple French bread roll with a little mustard for something ridiculous like 2 mark, or around $1. Heaven. Heaven on a roll. The brat melted in my mouth, fueled by the light charring of the grill, the simple zest of the mustard, and the simple exquisite spice within the sausage itself. So good. So unbelievably good. I'd go back this very minute for another, if (a) I weren't a poor graduate student and (b) it weren't 7 AM in Bonn right now, making brats unlikely to be sold.
University of Bonn
by antistar
Bonn is a university city, and the students of Bonn University make up a tenth of the population. Founded in 1818, the university is one of the most esteemed in the world. It has produced such luminaries as the current Vatican incumbent, Pope Benedict XVI, Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche and seven Nobel Laureates.
The main part of the university is housed in a stunning and enormous neo-Classical building right in the center of Bonn. It backs onto some of the best parkland in the city, where you'll find numerous students playing sports, taking a picnic or just contemplating the arts.
The Siebengebirge
by RhineRoll
Siebengebirge means "range of 7" and it refers to 7 cone-shaped hills along the Rhine valley just south of Bonn. The Petersberg, from which this picture was taken, is the location of a luxury hotel which was used by the Federal government as a guesthouse for visiting statesmen, when Bonn still was seat of the Federal government. Today, everybody can come here, have a beer on the terrace and enjoy the marvelous views across the Rhine valley and the Eifel hills. Very limitied disabled access.
Bonn There, Done with That
by MTommyHill
Made a quick one day stop in the German city. Bonn's is characterised by the its many shops and the weekly market , the basilica and university . Numerous pubs, breweries and restaurants also make the city centre a popular place. After walking through town for a while and content with seeing what I saw had a nice supper in a local pub. Nice for a day but I didn't need more time.
