Rhine River around Ramersdorf
by yumyum
On our VT meet after visiting the Rest. Rohmuehle we also took a walk along the Rhine river.
In the vicinity we saw an old water tower. On the Rhine there were freight ships passing.
On a warm day you could easily take a seat and watch the world go by. On our meeting it wasn't that warm although it was supposed to be summer!

Please note that the photos on this page are from the web. I have not been able to scan my slides yet.
The Beethovenhaus is actually a very interesting museum. I am, of course, fascinated byt the old instruments and documents. But just the layout of the house - the tiny rooms, small doors etc. -- is amazing to see. Just imagine living there!
Synagogue Memorial

Down by the Rhine, in the shadow of the Old Rhine Bridge, is a small and moving memorial to a riverside Synagoge that existed here before the war. Now all that remains is a sunken Star of David, and a beautiful and subtle carving of the same from the bricks that I assume must have housed the original Synagogue.
A small town in Germany

The title of this travel page refers to a novel by John le Carre which is set in Bonn in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War. Obviously Bonn was the somewhat unlikely capital of West Germany at the time, and the novel depicts a Bonn that I never knew.
I only started to visit Bonn in 2000, when I first visited my husband's family, by which time the centre of political power and influence had relocated to Berlin.
Bonn - the pearl of Rhine
by babar_1
My second trip to Europe and first to Germany. To my surprise Bonn is not a very big city. It is quite and peaceful, and still we can find a lot of people from different countries.
In the city's streets, old markets, stores, pedestrian malls, parks, and the handsome Südstadt residential area, life is unhurried and unsophisticated by the standard of larger cities. The town center is a car-free zone.
The Markt (market) is situated in the Old Town Center. Here you'll find an 18th-century Rathaus (Town Hall) that looks like a pink doll's house.
The visit of Bonn is not completed without a trip on beautiful river Rhine.
