Right down Poppelsdorf Allee, you will come across the Poppelsdorf castle and right next to that is the botanical gardens in which you can visit. It's a very nice castle located right in Bonn.
In former feudalistic times the Poppelsdorf Castle was a "Hunting Chateau", it is situated at the end of a green avenue; this avenue starts at the main city castle (today main building of University) and ends with the Poppelsdorf Castle, which is surrounded by the Botanical garden of the university.
The Poppelsdorf Palace was erected in 1740 in Baroque style. Today it is used by university and is as an important research place of botany. The park around the palace has been a Botanical Gardens with hothouses for almost 200 years. It is possible for the public to stroll around the garden to admire more than 800 species of plants.
Poppelsdorf is one of Bonn's nicest parts of town. Gorgeous fin-de-siècle townhouses and a very lively cultural scene, thanks to the University of Bonn which has several departments here. The palace adds a touch of class. The botanical garden is one of the oldest and nicest in Germany. The castle also belongs to the University and houses a pretty good mineralogical museum.

The foundation stone for this lovely castle was laid in 1715. The castle, however, was at first completed in 1753. Instead of an old water castle, a well-designed building was constructed, which surrounds a round arcade court with a quad of four wings. The annual "concerts in the Castle Poppelsdorf" form a special attraction for lovers of classical music. These performances take place here on summer nights in front of the illuminated façade of the Baroque castle.
In 1818, the castle as well as the bordering park of the university of Bonn were assigned and have been accommodating the scientific collections of the university of Bonn since then. The "Mineralogisches Museum" is also accommodated here. The bordering palace gardens were converted into today’s "Botanical Gardens".
