A Bonn Experience
We made a superb choice of hotel. Clean, friendly, helpful, wholesome breakfast (we ate other meals elsewhere) and well kitted out rooms.
We did manage to get a fabulous rate for our stay at this hotel making it great value for money.

Friendly and comfy
We booked the Consul as other Wineroll participants would stay there and it seemed good value for money. It was! We arrived in Bonn around 7.30 in the morning as we came with a night train. Having alerted the hotel that we'd pop in to store our luggage there as we would be in Ahrtal all day, we checked in only to find that the room was all ready for us. This being quite a big hotel and off season, they of course had rooms but it is still a nice gesture and moreover, the receptionist already had the key in her hand when she saw us coming. Very friendly reception staff gave a good first impression. The room turned out to be really spacious even if the bathroom will be seen as small by an American :) Beds were comfy and if you kept the windows shut there was no outside noise (we were in a room facing the yard but that had an extractor fan that could have kept us awake). The TV had a couple of English-speaking news channels but the rest was German. Breakfast came as the nice German breakfast we had hoped for and left nothing to wish for - even our daughter delighted in the Nutella and to my own pleasure I found pickled cherries to go with the quark. I had booked this thinking it would be OK, but definately the most boring hotel during this Germany trip. It turned out to be the best! The hotel is in an ugly concrete building and just around the corner there are some odd night clubs (these are the only reasons for it lacking my last satisfaction rating) but just across the broad Oxfordstrasse is the lovely old town with Beethoven's house just a couple of blocks away and in no way did I find the area threatening. I would almost go back to Bonn just to have breakfast here again :)))
Unique Quality: The friendly reception staff and the variety at breakfast combined with the central location and comfy beds really is great value for money, especially if booked via internet deals.

Consul hotel
The hotel is centrally located & about 10min walk to the station & close to Beethoven's birthplace. I requested a room with a view onto the courtyard as I believe rooms that back onto the busy main road can be noisy.
The room was pretty standard but pleasent and clean with powerful shower no bath.
Breakfast was a plentiful buffet of cereals, fruit & youghurt there was a cheese & cold meats selection as well as a hot tray of sausage and scrambled egg. The coffee is very strong - you have been warned. Also nut allergy sufferers please note some of the speciality breads do contain seeds!!
Unique Quality: Most of the VT'ers on the wineroll stayed at this hotel which made for interesting VT spotting over the breakfast table.
One thing I did find unpleasent was the fact that people were allowed to smoke in reception & one gentleman smoked his stinky cigar which made me feel ill but you are near the door for a breath of fresh air. We were on a no smoking floor in the hotel

Clean and comfy
This is a friendly hotel with a good location. It was very clean and comfortable. They have non-smoking rooms as well as smoking rooms. In the shower/toilet there was also a hair dryer. Minibar in the room and TV. Additional pillows in the wardrobe. A small chocolate at the bedside table as a welcome. The central heating system worked very well, you can adjust it individually. There is also a aircon system or you can open the window.
The buffet breakfast was simply excellent with it's choice of cheeses, cold meats, cereal, fresh fruit salad etc. Tea and coffee is served at the table and there are various kinds of teas.
You can park your car in their outdoor parking lot for 5 Euros a night. There is also a public underground parking under the building but it is not open 24 hours a day. They also have a left luggage room.
The hotel has no steps and is therefore wheelchair accessable. In the breakfast room there are no steps for the buffet and some tables.
A double room is around 70 Euros, depending when and on which site you book.
PS: I forgot to take the picture when I first arrived, so please excuse the messy beds.
