Group accommodation search

by mandybailey

Hi, I need help!

I'm trying to book accommodation in Cologne for a group of 11 girls and I can't find much, we only want to spend about £20 per person per night. We don't mind a hotel/apartment/hostel. We want a central location, or if not central then at least in an area with restaurants and bars.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Try the Hotel Domblik, it is only .6km from the train station, town centre and the Dom.
You should be able to google it.

If you are going mid to late November, hotels are hard to find because of the Christmas Markets.

You can go to the Cologne travel page here on VT. You also might want to re-post your question in the Germany and Cologne forums. You should get more specific help there. Gary

£20 is about 30 Euro, not too much for Cologne. Contact the tourist information in Cologne , they may be able to help you.

Hello,

try:
http://www.city-pension.com/html/ehotel.htm
It seems to be quite central and the price is good as well. Unfortunately I don't know how many rooms exactly they have.

Have you tried Station Hostel?
http://www.hostel-cologne.de/index.htm

Stayed there a few times and loved it. It's only a few metres away from the cathedral/old town and you can definitely walk to the nightlife spots.

Hope this helps!

The price is going to be a real challenge for Cologne. Try this hotel: www.hotel-wester.de - a nice little hotel.

You can actually negotiate Room rates with the owner "Hansi", so don't use any websites like www.hrs.com! Funny Koelsch guy, but he is a "real" host who cares for his "guests". He can give you lots of tips on where to "go out" in Cologne (Nigth and Day). Just call or write him directly. If there is no special exhibition he'll give you really good prices...

The hotel is near to the Station "Volkhovener Weg" and it takes you approx. 12min. to get to the City "Koelner Dom" Area by fast train (EUR 2,50 per Person per ride, I think).

Wish you girls a lot of fun!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We've found a hotel now, a little more than we wanted to spend but looks lovely!

We have just booked the Am Rheinauhafen Hostel and Station Bar in Cologne City centre. Take a look at the TUIfly website and click on the accommodation link.
They do all types of rooms and there is a nightclub on the premises and beer at only 1 euro

Travel Tips for Cologne

Walk through the worlds...

by kinipela6

Walk through the worlds largest Gothic Cathedral- Dom. It is absolutely breathtaking and peaceful!!!
(For the last 70 years this cathedral has been under contruction. It has never been not under constuction! I was told that you can't go there and not see scaffolding on it! Has anyone ever seen it scaffolding-free?)

"Flying"over Rhine Park

by sandravdp

Walk into Rhine park at the other side of the old city (cross the river by the footpath at the trainbridge). When you are at the end of the park take the cable ride! It costs only 3 EURO and the view is spectacular!

the Hauptbahnof is so sexy!...

by miromi

the Hauptbahnof is so sexy! all those sensual 19th century curves that remain so modern and attractive. going along with all my bad luck, i predictably missed a train here, or thought i did, only to run to the counter, purchase another ticket (it was an ICE) run back, then find out my train was merely late (which is suspected before, but didn't believe because I thought all german trains were punctual), and had the most wonderful feeling pulling out of the city, joy that i was leaving and not coming back anytime soon
The trains could also be called trams/streetcars (i'm not sure what the proper difference is between all the categories) and are so cute and narrow, like big metallic slippery eels slipping through the Altstadt and surfing the bridge over the Rhine. this is the only German city I ever got lost in, but it was probably due to my foul, dark mood, and the rain. O Koeln! why didst thou forsake me???

Little Imbiss by the Rhein

by Mariajoy about Hafen Terrasse

There's a little Imbiss selling Bockwurst and Bratwurst and Pommes just across the bridge from the Sport and Chocolate museums. They are served with or without onions and they will squirt ketchup on if you don't ask for it without. They will also squirt some whiteish sauce (which isn't mustard) unless you tell them you don't want it. The staff are very tolerant of tourists who ask for *hotdogs*.

They don't serve drinks here. When you sit down with your food a waiter will come over and take your drinks order. You pay for the drinks when he brings them. Being a vegetarian I only had chips.

can you believe it survived the war?

by skywalkerbeth

THE thing to see in Cologne. One of the few things to survive air raids in WWII, as well. I stayed in the Dom hotel which is in its shadow. it's also very easy to pick up your rental Mercedes the next morning - Sixt is practically across the street!
