take a sight seeing boat ride on the Rhine River. Get off the boat at one of the small villages and have lunch at a gast haus. The beer and food is something you will remember the rest of your life. I know because I did exactly that in 1958 and it is still a vivid memory. I served in the US Army in Germany 1958-1960. Went back 4 times since then. I remember the trains, mountains, flowers, lakes, beer, food, music, friendship, the cathedral in Cologne(climbed to the top)the gast hauses and the way the german people enjoy their liesure time. I also have fond memories of the chair lifts at Rudesheim, Assmanshausen and the car ferries at Koblenz, Bingen and Mainz. Germany is right up there at the top of my favorite countries to visit.

This small Hunting Palace is at a brisk walks distance from Schloss Augustusburg - go through the formal gardens, then turn left (sign-posted) and walk on roughly 1 km. It can be visited except for December/January.

The train station is an advertisement for Cologne -- the perfume, not the city. I think that's pretty cool. It's also pretty cool how convenient the station is. When you step outside the concourse, the Cathedral looms directly above you; everything else is just around the corner.
Get used to this station -- chances are, if you're traveling in Germany, you'll come through here.
Nice atmosphere

I like planning and Sabsi loves making reservations so weeks before I went to Cologne I did a plan that we'll end our day in MediaPark in Cologne - a new business and entertainment park. We found this place on the Internet and reserved a table.
They were keeping our table downstairs but Sabsi wanted to go upstairs which was OK since the place wasn't very crowded. Can't remember - I had some pasta and it was delicious.
Can anyone say Gothic?

Cologne Cathedral is a massive gothic structure dominating the skyline of Cologne. Inside marvel at the enormous interior and details of the architecture. Below is the cathedral's treasury containing all sorts of golden items. Though the complex may seem in good order the exterior is covered in a layer of soot and the structure is on the UNESCO in danger list. In the adjacent square to the cathedral are upscale shops, while in the middle of the vicinity, is a large stall filled with vicious anti-American/Isreali propaganda (just what I want to see on vacation!) ::sarcasm::
