Gluhweinbecker- christmas souvenir mugs

by kyberpast6

How much are the collectors mugs this year, and from which stalls? What's the deposit if you want to keep the mug?

Looking forward to visiting again December.

Re: Gluhweinbecker- christmas souvenir mugs

On the website of Köln Christmas Market:
http://www.koelnerweihnachtsmarkt.de/
it says that they cost 2,50 Euro and that they are available at each stall that has hot drinks. And in case you want to buy mugs of the previous years, the website mentions that they are available at the pavillion of Marzipanbäckerei (Pav 138) [marsipan shop/bakery].
Website for the mugs only is this one:
http://www.koelnertassen.de/

Hope this helps :-)

Travel Tips for Cologne

Old Town

by Kathrin_E

Do not expect much old town flair in Cologne. World War II has left hardly more than piles of rubble. 90% of the city centre were destroyed. What you see today has all been rebuilt after the war, few houses in their historical shape and many in post-war style. With the increasing number of Rhine cruise ships landing, the streets close to the Rhine bank have become a tourist quarter with a few traditional old pubs and many more or less tacky fast food places that cater for mass tourism.

Bier Museum

by croisbeauty

Well, I wasn't surprise because it could be expected to see the Bier Museum in the town of bier. It is situated in the old core of the town and, of course, surrounded by the number of other breweries. I suppose it is a must see for all bier lovers but am not the one.

Köln, booming nightlife for everyone

by Pavlik_NL

Köln has many possibilities to party through the night. Be sure to also stand still for a moment to enjoy the mysterious green alumination of the Dom. In Köln are also cultural clubs for many minorities!

Cafe With A Lovely Atmosphere

by AnnS about Cafe Extrablatt

I visit this cafe every time I'm in Cologne because I love everything about it. When the weather's nice you can sit outside and watch the world go by and when it's not, the interior is warm, welcoming and comfortable. The staff are friendly and efficient, the food and drink is delicious and the prices extremely reasonable.

The menu has something for all times of the day - breakfasts, ice-creams, snacks, full meals and a wide selection of drinks and cocktails.

There is good music always playing and when I was last there, a screen was dropped from the balcony and the night's football game projected onto it but none of this is too overpowering for those wanting to chat with friends.

I particularly like it at Christmas when much care is obviously taken with the decorations. It makes a lovely snug atmosphere in which to have a rest from shopping and it is situated right in the middle of the Altstadt Christmas Market. Calamari with a sour cream or garlic dip, accompanied by little baked bread rolls.

Best view of Cologne

by stewartl

Just across the river is the Köln Triangle Tower - opposite to the cathedral with a 103 m (338 ft) high viewing platform - with an elevator and a view with the cathedral over the Rhine.
Well worth a visit, make sure to take you camera
Small fee.
