Great Hotel
We really liked this hotel. We had 4 rooms in total, 3 of which were double rooms with an extra bed so were sleeping 3. The rooms were a little small once you had that extra bed in there. But still the rooms had lots of character and were comfortable. They were also warm and cosy on the winter nights.
The bathrooms were great for female guests, complete with big powerful shower, hairdryer and magnifying mirror.
The breakfast was buffet style with a selection of hot and cold food. You had to get there early if you wanted a fresh, warm croissant. It was plentiful and delicious.
Unique Quality: The location is particularly good. There are bars and restaurants in the local area. The nearest tram stop is 2 minutes away and it's only about a 10 minute walk to Rudolfplatz to pick up the U-Bahn. Although by the time you've walked to Rudolfplatz it's only another 5 minutes walk to the old part of the city, the shops, cathedral, river etc...
Oh and it used to be a monastry so there are some nice old features.

Gorgeous hotel
This place was a bit more expensive than hotels I normally go to, but it had such rave reviews online, I couldn't pass it up. It's in a great location, just a bit to the west of the main center of Cologne, but you can get into town easily. It's in a former monastery, with a very modern interior, but it works together. There were all sorts of nice touches about the interior: lights shining down the floor number, lit-up room numbers, wooden floors, marbled bathrooms with frosted glass doors. The room wasn't huge, but it wasn't too cramped, especially the bathroom was spacious for a hotel room. Unfortunately the beds were too hard for me, and the feather pillows left me with a neck that was sore for days. Otherwise it was a great place to stay. Just double up on the pillows.
