Fastelovend - Carnival
by IceBear7
A great time for being in Köln - Karneval. Rosenmontag. The whole city is a big party, there is a fantastic parade, with music and beer and flowers and chocolates, and even more partying afterwards.

lots of different varieties of Kölsch
by richiecdisc about Brrauhaus Sion
Brauhaus Sion is another typical Kölsch brewpub and very conveniently located in scenic part of the old town down by the river. Two things that make these places so great is you can go in and stand at the bar (unlike most places in Germany) and Kölsch comes in small glasses (only .20 liters) so you can try many of them in one day! Sion's version was one of the drier ones and it had a great loud atmosphere as its patrons obviously enjoyed the products of the brewery. One of Cologne's more down to earth pubs so I felt fine in jeans.
Cologne's public transport
by keeweechic
Cologne's public transport network is made up of buses, trams and an S-Bahn and U-Bahn train system operated by Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Sieg. If you're planning on spending a few days in Cologne you can buy a 3-day ticket or a strip ticket for a maximum of 4 separate journeys depending on the distance.
.
Hauptbahnhof is the central station. There are frequent trains to most European destinations with both Bonn and Dusseldorf just half an hour away.

Kölner Dom from the Hauptbahnhof
by Rupanworld
As one enters the city by train from the Hauptbahnhof as well as while leaving the city by train, from the platforms one can have a great view of the Dom looking pretty close, and infact it is very close. These photos are taken while we left the city by train as a last impression, and it was indeed an eyeful.
