Religious Processions
by yooperprof
If you are in Cologne in one of the major religious "seasons" of the year - Easter, Pentecost, Advent - you may very well run into a procession winding its way through the city streets. The city is one of the most important centers of Roman Catholicism in Germany, and with the Cathedral attracting millions of pilgrims every year, there is a vital and living presence of the faith here. I was sitting with my guide in the Heumarkt enjoying a Kölsch when one of the processions came through the square. Stephan explained that it was a "first communion" procession for a couple who were probably going to be "confirmed" in their faith later that day. (Cologne has a significant immigrant population; it seems that the "couple of honor" in the procession were from a community of SE Asian immigrants.)

Tourist Train
by sandysmith
Just outside the Cathedral (in the square behind) these tellow tourist trains can be boarded to two main tourist attractions - the zoo and the chocolate museum which are in opposite directions. The chocholate train does a nice little tour through the old town and past the Rathaus on its way. We didn't do this only having a few hours but I noticed the price was 4 euros for the round trip of either tour.
Peters Brauhaus up market ?
by FrostyJW about Peters Brauhaus
From the exterior one would think this is a more upmarket and stylish brewery bar, and in one sense it is, but it remains the usual traditional feel and atmosphere as with most of the brew houses in Cologne. The Kolsch is good, though not the best, middle ranking I would say, but worth the visit to see the interior alone. Staff were good and spoke some English. The Kolsch Beer was good, but not the best I have had, the food menu looked good, and from what we saw it was good, but did not eat here so cannot comment.
Romisch-Germanisches Museum
by zuriga
I spent hours visiting the art museum and then the museum of Roman antiquities. Sometimes people forget that many countries in Europe (and the UK) have great Roman artifacts. Both museums are located near the main square in front of the famous and magnificent cathedral.
