From Trier to Cologne

by amakaaa

I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to get to Cologne from Trier? Thanks

Re: From Trier to Cologne

You can take the train and have the choice of 2 scenic routes... one, probably the faster one, uses the Moselle and Rhine Valleys. You would probably have to switch trains in Koblenz (although direct IC trains exist a couple of times per day). The other line is a small one directly through the Eifel hills using small river valleys.

This is the side-wall of one of the expo-halls. Look at the people, then you can imagine the height of the building and also of the EYE-PICTURE.

Kölner Dom - Window of the Three Holy Kings

by Diana75

The windows of Kolner Dom are magnificent, each of them being full of signification.
The Window of the Three Holy Kings is one of my favourites.
In the lowest part of the window are two rows with 16 coats of arms.
The saints above are the patron saints of the archbishop and his house: Saint Peter, presenting the archbishop, Saint Elisabeth of Thuringia and Saint Christopher.
The central part presents the Adoration of the Magi.
On the left the visit of the Queen of Sheba.
The window was donated by the Cologne Archbishop Hermann von Hessen (1480-1508).

Hub for No-Frills Airlines

by RhineRoll

In the past, Cologne's airport had been given names like "snack bar with attached airstrip". This is no longer justified as Cologne "Konrad Adenauer" Airport has developed into a major hub for European No-Frills airlines. The German budget airline Germanwings is based here, other important carriers include Hapag Lloyd Express and -- recently added -- Easyjet. With two terminals, the airport's passenger area still is rather small, which makes arriving and leaving very easy. I really like this airport, especially the modern "Terminal 2".

The airport now also has excellent railway connections through its newly built subterranean train station.

Chocolate Cafe

by leafmcgowan about Chocolate Cafe at the Chocolate Museum

A nice little cafe/restaurant attached to Cologne's infamous chocolate museum. Along the Rhine River with great panoramic views, great service, chocolate goodness, and delicious treats. Not many food meals are served as their primary focus is chocolate desserts. But the Spinach Quiche and the Chile Con Carne are fabulous as is the hot chocolate.

Cologne Cathedral

by FrostyJW

Unless you have no interest at all in church buildings, then the Koln Dom is an essential visit. The interior is very interesting, and though always very busy with tourists is still worth the effort. I did not go up the tower (I suffer from severe vertigo!!) but just seeing the inside was sufficient without paying to see the treasury or tower. On a future visit will pay to see the Treasury! Cathedral is not open to tourists during services, see web site for details.
