We stayed in this hotel for a 2 night break at the Christmas market. It is not the classiest hotel ever but it is clean, friendly staff and very well priced. The price was extra special as the hotel is right in the city centre. A 5 minute walk to the cathedral and main shopping area. I would recommend this for a quick stay in the city or weekend break, but not for those seeking luxurious surroundings.

Directions: Very close to the Cathedral and behind the train station. A short walk from the main shopping centre.

The Hotel DREI KÖNIGE AM DOM is a 3-star superior hotel with restaurant ( BIG CHINA ) in the heart of the city center of Cologne, adjacent to the world famous cathedral .

Breakfast was buffet-style with bread and cold meats and cheeses. Tea and coffee was available.

The rooms were well equipped with cable tv (with english channels).

Unique Quality: It is only a few minutes to walked to the arts centre with museums, the Philharmonic, theatres and the opera . . . and about 2 minutes walk to the central train station (Koeln HBF).

We booked this place through http://www.koeln.de/en/ a month before our trip. This hotel comes up on a lot of internet searches for a wide range of prices. This site allows you to make a non-binding (no credit card required) reservation till 6 p.m. on the day of your arrival. Got a double room for $60. The room and bed was very clean, a couple light fixtures were broken, and the furniture was a bit run down. A decent basic hotel. Breakfast was a good value with a wide range of typical european breakfast offerings. The credit card machine was broken, so had to pay cash.

Unique Quality: Very close to old town and trainstation. Inexpensive for the area.

Directions: Get past the construction and walk with the front of the cathedral at your back. Marzellen Strasse. A little confusing but find that street and it is a short walk even with luggage. Right side of street look for number 58-60.

Perfectly clean (like all hotels in Germany!) and central located Hotel.

Negative points:
Breakfast not great compared with more expensive hotels.
No internet.
Not newspapers
Not bar or meeting area.

Unique Quality: 5 minutes to Hbf (Central Station) and Dom.
Very good price for the location.
Not noisy at all, quiet street.

Directions: In the same street of Hilton Cologne
