Can fly to Cologne or fly to Dusseldorf then train from Central station at Dusseldorf to Cologne in app 22/26 mins - pass through Leverkusen and you can see the Huge Bayer works.
The rail station in Cologne is right next to the Cathedral.
Did not use any transport as it is small enough to walk around and a lot of the sights are close together
Huge portions of Italian food
by garridogal about Ristorante Central
Once again, we walked by and it looked lively so we walked in! Ristorante Central has a neighborhood restaurant feel, like most of it's patrons live nearby or are regulars. We sat at a table up front by the windows but when I went downstairs to use the loo I noticed that it has a big back room with lots of additional tables. I had cannelloni stuffed with spinach and cheese and Bryan had the lasagna. Both were served in piping hot ceramic dishes and were huge in portion size. I'll be honest and say that it wasn't the best Italian food I've ever had. (My mother's half Italian and living in the Northeast US, we don't have any shortage of this kind of food.) But, it was really tasty and satisfying.
Cologne Cathedral
by Travelchili
Cologne cathedral is the most famous landmark in the city and probably one of the best known architectural monuments in the whole Germany.
The two spires of the cathedral are 157 meters high -- to truly understand how high they are, stand in front of the cathedral and look up to the sky. It is simply impressive!
It took exactly 632 years to finish one of the largest cathedrals in Germany. The foundations of the cathedral were layed down in 1248 and it was only in 1880 when it was fully finished.
