See the spectacular Cathedral, wander along the promenade along the river. Also the Altstad is worth seeing. Having breakfast in the Maritim Hotel's restaurant which overlooks the river and watching the boats and barges gliding past. also the Cathedral (seen it three times now and it's still impressive every time)
Nubergring Race Track

We went to the Grand Prix of Europe for my husband's birthday this year. We had a great time. We had a long walk to our seats, but we were on a great corner where we saw two (somewhat) straightaways. We had wonderful weather, but it was pretty cold in the grandstands with the wind, but as soon as we were back on the ground (sheltered by the wind) it was hot.
TIP: After learning the hard way (train ride + taxi fare) we learned that you should take the train to Koblenz then the shuttle bus from there.

Cologne has a very large and stylish train station, with many internal and international services. If you need to kill a few hours here waiting for connections, there are plenty of food outlets and shops here in a very modern complex.
Yet More Sausage And Beer
by johngayton about Gilden im Zims
Gilden im Zims is one of Cologne's typical beerhouses. Although it no longer brews on the premises it still has its house beer brewed in the Kölsch style and serves it in the traditional 20 cl cylindrical glasses, known as a "stange" (pole).
Tradition aside though I found this bar a tad characterless although service was efficient and the terrace was quite buzzy. I just had a simple Wurstsalat and it wasn't the worst salad I ever eaten (HeHe!) but certainly not the best. The sausage had been cut into strips and tossed through with gerkins and sweet peppers. This was then topped with red onion and served with a few leaves for garnish. The accompanying rye bread was good tho and the beer perfectly drinkable.
A bit expensive at almost 9 Euros.
Absolute magnificence!

The Cathedral in Koln is very beautiful, a huge gothic cathedral. All of the architecture points upward. When you look at it, your gaze naturally goes up, it is designed to point to the Heavens. The intention here is that we should always seek those precious things from above, and not concern ourselves too much with transient worldly matters.
The cathedral is unfortunately blackened by car pollution. Some sections have been cleaned, the soot is removed to reveal its true color - pearl white! Che bella la chiesa!
The Cathedral also contains the alleged relics of the 3 Wise Men who visited Jesus in Bethlehem. There is really no way to prove whether the relics are legitimate or fakes. The stained glass inside is pure eye-candy, and the cathedral has beautiful, giant pipe organs. I would love to hear one played!
