Gay Pride in Cologne
by mickebear
Cologne is undoubtely one of the European Gay capitals, and certainly the most or second most important gay center in Germany. City is extremely open and people not only tolerate, but kind of expect and demand tolerance towards gays and lesbians.
Next Gay Pride in Cologne takes place from 18th June until 3rd July 2005.
Travel fast by ICE train
by sandravdp
To get to Cologne from another country like the Netherlands or Switzerland I would strongly recommend the ICE train. It's fast, it's not very expensive and it's reliable.
But you must make a reservation, cause the train is easily full. At large stations you can get tickets for the ICE train. In the Netherlands for instance at the International desk at platform number 2 of Amsterdam Central Station.
A Lovely Classy Cafe
by AnnS about Cafe Cremer
Cafe Cremer is a lovely elegant, traditional cafe... the kind that sadly seems to have disappeared in many of the world's cities. It appeals to older people and those who just want a rest from shopping in genteel and comfortable surroundings. There are lots of tables on two levels and a small non-smoking area on the ground floor. The menu is comprehensive and offers full meals, snacks and a wide range of the pastries and cakes that Germans are so fond of. Toast Hawaii - ham, pineapple and melted cheese on toast, garnished with mandarin orange segments and two glace cherries.
View from the top of the Kölner Dom
by canuck212
Standing an impressive 157 meters high, the Kölner Dom was once the World's tallest structure and remains the largest cathedral in Europe. If you manage to make it up the South Tower's seemingly neverending spiral staircase consisting of 509 steps you'll be greeted by an impeccable view that is nothing short of breathtaking. The tower is open daily from 9am to 4pm and until 5pm in summer. Admission is approximately 2 EUR per person (concessions available).
