hi , i will be in cologne for trade fair around 11 jan 2008 for 10 days, appreciate anyone can advise me on the weather & what clothing wear . also have probably 4 days free, how can i make best of touring around cologne or other place??? how far is to frankfurt or berlin by public transport???

you don't have to expect much snow in Köln, not even in January. Köln and the city regions belong to the "warmest" areas of Germany in Winter. The average temperature in January is around 2°C (but that is, of course, the mean value of day and night time temperatures. So over the day it will normally be between 4 - 8°C)
By train it will take you 70 to 95 minutes from Köln to Frankfurt. Going to Berlin would take you a bit more than 4 hours.

Thousand of tourist visit the Dom every day and they miss the best part!
Be sure to be there at 12 o'clock. You can attend the Mittagsgebet and listen to the Organ Play. You'll get goosebumps, as it just sounds great!
Cologne is very easily accessible no matter what means of transport you prefer.

the food here was sooo tasty!! very comfortable,relaxed surroundings,a slightly more upmarket restaurant but you definatley got what you paid for. rack of lamb,seriously this was the best lamb meal i have had in my life.you have just got to try it!!!
Now, I've been in quite a few impressive Cathedrals in my time, but this one is BY FAR the most impressive! The scale of it is just jaw dropping.
Unfortunately, we didn't get up the tower (or spire...whichever it is!!) - our break was blighted by fog, and it didn't seem worth expending all that effort to see the inside of a cloud!
Some beatiful stained glass windows, and a relic of the Three Magi add to the splendour of the place. And if your visit coincides with Christmas markets, this will give you a welcome relief from the bustle.
