hotel in cologne near airport

by skyejamie

I am looking for a reasonable hotel for one night in September either near the Cologne airport or easy to get to the airport using public transportation.

RE: hotel in cologne near airport

by t_maia

I found several hotels using http://www.koeln.de/tourismus/hotel-koeln.html, (click on "Suchen+Buchen"). Expect something in the area of 40-60 EUR.

Alternatively you can also send an email to the tourist info at info@koelntourismus.de, they can help you find something suitable.

There are frequent S-Bahn and RE trains connecting the airport with the Hauptbahnhof (main railway station). Which is directly next to the cathedral.
Travel time is 12-15 min. Single ticket EUR 2,20.

This area around the Hauptbahnhof is where you can find the most hotels.

Travel Tips for Cologne

The Christopher Street Days

by shrimp56

It is rumored that the CSD/Gay Pride days draw more people than the traditional Cologne Carnival itself! The 2005 theme was "Growing Old with Dignity." This picture [and those in the travelogue] were taken by our Macedonian "son" as he and some friends watched this amazing event!
.
The name of the carnival is taken from Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, New York City, which has been a focus of the city's gay community since at least World War II.

DRIVE! DRIVE!! ...

by Krystynn

DRIVE! DRIVE!! DRIVE!!!!

It's less than half an hour away from Bonn and less than one hour away from the other big city, Düsseldorf.

DRIVE! DRIVE!! DRIVE!!!! With 10 autobahns alone here in Cologne, you'd never be afraid that you won't reach your destination on time. Just pray that the autobahns aren't choked with heavy traffic during the peak hours.

All natural ice cream with great service!

by BillNJ about Australian Homemade

Generally, the ice cream in Europe is great. Australian Homemade takes it up a notch by offering great tasting ice cream that is also made with all natural ingredients. The ice cream and sorbets are made right on the premises with a high percentage of fresh fruit. I had a cone with strawberry ice cream -- and it was delicious! Also, the young man who served me was very friendly and professional. Two thumbs up for Australian Homemade! Strawberry Ice Cream

KOELNER DOM

by Lalique

Of course it's a MUST for all tourists and travellers coming to Cologne! Especially that it's literaly 5 meters from Hauptbahnhof (if you're coming to Cologne by train).
Inside you can find one of world historic treasures - Dreikoenigenschrein - a masterpiece of medieval jewellers. It's made almost all of gold!!

I noticed that one can't take a picture of the whole Dom being somewhere close to it. The Dom is so huge (and high) plus there are a lot of neighbouring houses that bar the view, that the better shot would be from the other side of the river.
