Glühwein
by Helga67
Gluehwein is a must to try when on the christmas market. These hot red wines spiced with cinnamon, cloves and sugar are especially delicious when you have a bit of a chill.
The Gluehwein is sold in lovely glasses or christmas cups. You will pay for the drink and the cup to keep, but when you give back the cup when it is empty you will receive back the money for the cup.
Beer 3
by BarryG01 about The Corkonian
A nice Irish Pub! Try the drink "Snakebite", a mixture made of Kilkenny's beer and cider!
Hopefully the waitress will think that we have been waiting a long time and will give us a free round of some liquorish tasting schnapps Casual
Fun ambiance and good food
by garridogal about Latino Loco
We wandered into this restaurant because it seemed fun and lively. And it was! So much so that after eating we moved over to the bar and chatted with the bartender and waitress for another hour or so. So now you know that it's fun place and that those who work there are friendly - at least on the night we were there! We each had steak. I had the Steak Cozumel which was served with a pepper sauce and really well cooked. Bryan had one of the Steaks served w/a tomatoe based sauce. Both were delicious.
I can't, however, recommend the Guacamole. Clearly from a can and not very good.
Christmas-markets all around
by Turska
There´s a lot of Christmas-markets in Köln(as we say Cologne). That was the reason that we choosed to come here for our"little-Christmas-trip"in the beginning of December.I hate winter, but I love Christmas,so I take all I can get from everything about Christmas!
Best market was maybe that old time market, with real smiths and other handycraft-makers.I´m a metal-smith for my other occupation, too,so I wanted to go there. It was quite small, but still I liked it.There was also a real donkey there!
That Glûhwein(sorry if I write it wrong,I don´t speak German) wasn´t our thing,so after one cup,we took hot chokolade with vanilla-liquer or something else.It was nice to have something hot outside. In Finland you can´t sell alcohol outside unless it´s a beergarden.
Shopping with the locals
by BruceDunning
There are some nice shops right behind the Cathedral and it continues for some blocks. People just go along on their daily lives, I guess being used to the tourists trying to fit in, or just hanging out and watching the locals go by.
