Cologne is both an ancient and modern city.

Cologne is both an ancient and a modern city. Everywhere we walked we found both ancient buildings and walls all mixed in amoung the new modern buildings. Here is an example of a new modern tower and an ancient Cathedral all within a few blocks of each other.
Take A Wander Down To The Old Docks
by johngayton
Although I never found Cologne to be in any way oppressive it is always nice to have a wander and find yourself a bit of personal space. A very pleasant sunny morning meander took me across the railway bridge from which I headed south along the riverside down to the old docks.
This gives you a different perspective of the city as you walk and once you pass the Severinsbrucke you can cross back to the main river where there's a riverside nature reserve which is popular with the locals for sunbathing and dog-walking etc.
Good for working up a thirst for the Kölsch's and hunger for the sausages.
Flight

We booked a flight with Germanwings from Munich to Cologne-Bonn airport. Flight time was one hour and the price for 2 people, 97,70 Euros. Germanwings offers you during the flight snacks and drinks for ca. 1,50 - 4 Euros.
Don't miss the good fish
by Marie-Claude about Nordsee
A restaurant devoted to fish. You have healthy plates and fast food plates too. The Fish and Chip is delicious so is the prawn salad. There is also some tuna and salmon pittas. The price is good and so is the food. Take out if you don't have much time for lunch and tables for those who have the time to sit down.
Restaurants in Germany and Austria.
Its big

I only saw this from a mile away as we bypassed the town on the way to Amsterfdam. My dad took this pic when he was here some years back for work. It is a really surreal sight as you see it looming out from the distance. Also sureal that I am laying my eyes upon something my father had done so some years before, and we are from Australia.
