by ELLA33

Hi there,
Any of you travel from Cologne to Brussel with Thalys speed train. Are they really cheaper? If we land with germanwings at 16.00 after how many time we will be able to take train to Brussel?
Thanks a lot

1) Cheaper then what?
2) You will need to get to the main station first. There you can take the train. They run about every two hours.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en
From: CGN
To: Brussel

The airport is not that big thus 1 hour after arrival should be sufficient.

From Cologne/Bonn Airport take train(train station near by with free shuttlle) to Cologne Main station (Hbf) do not get out at Cologne-Deutz, thou!
At Cologne Hbf you will need to chek on wich lane THAYLYS is leaving from, usualy is 4, but better chek.
I think there is THALYS at 19.00h to Paris , stopping at Aachen,Liege, Brussels,Lille and Paris Gare du Nord.
Yor stop is Burussels-Midi- Brussels Zuid
Chek prices on their website www.thalys.com
There is THALYS at 17.44.
I dont know when you travel, but if you book well in advance they are realy cheap.
For example in September (if you book now) they cost €15 one way.
Hope this helps.

Travel Tips for Cologne

WelcomeCard

by jayhawk2000

Get yourself a WelcomeCard for your visit to Koln and benefit from free travel on public transport and discounts at many attractions.

Koln has a complex travel network of trains, trams and buses but with your WelcomeCard you don't need to worry about buying the right ticket.

The museums and galleries can be a bit expensive, so it's great news that the WelcomeCard offers up to a 50% discount at most places!

There are other perks, like free beer and schnapps from certain bars and restaurants!

There are different versions to suit your itinerary, but for one person in Spring 2004 the 24-hour card was 9 euro, for 48 hours it's 14 euro and for 72 hours it's 19 euro. A 'family' card for 2 adults and 2 children (OR up to 3 adults and no children) costs twice as much.

You can buy the card at the tourist info offices which can be found in the city centre and at the airport, plus at many hotels.

Clothing depends on the season.

When trekking around a backpack, when staying in a hotel a suitcase. You get to walk around here a lot, so bring along your walking shoes or sneakers. Nothing special, bring the usual: your toothbrush and all. Yep, definitely photo shooting here. Bring a role of ilm & camera or buy one here. Bring a bathing suit, when using the swimming pool. In spring: bring a good coat.
In summer: bring skirts & shorts
In autumn: same as spring. Do expect some rain.
in winter: it can get very cold, so bring a long a good winterproof coat.

Flaying by ...wings

I hate flying, not exactly, it is more refered to loss of time before departings and on arivings. Not to mentioned those silly controlls which becoming more and more absurde. In the near future, I suppose so, they will ask us to enter in the plain completely naked. Oh, that would be fun!
Anyhow, I bought those cheap tickets in order to try weather it works or not. 50 € for return tickets, Zagreb-Cologne-Zagreb, isn't much. My only concerne was, am I going to seat inside the plain for such a price?

Specialities in a christmas atmosphere

by ptitetoile about Christmas market near the Cathedral

If it is christmas time and you are hungry... go and eat something from the christmas stands near the cathedral (Dom). You will find everything you want from the typical german food to the exotic one (mexican, chinese, etc). When I saw "spaetzle" (dish of tiny noodles or dumplings made with flour, eggs, water or milk, salt and sometimes nutmeg...cooked in water) with cheese. I could not resist!!!! Spaetzle of course
