Football game?

by MLW20

I will be staying in Cologne February 24, leaving the 26. Does anyone know if the local football team will be playing one either the 24th or 25th?

Also what is the best way to spend our 2 days in Cologne?

Checking guide books and virtualtourist.com, and other sites as well, you'll find lots of things to do in Cologne. Of course everyone will tell you that you shall not miss the "Dom" (cathedral), and it's indeed almost impossible to miss it, since the train station almost let you inside the cathedral.
So, advising you to go to the Cathedral is useless, I know. My advice is: among other things, do not lose the Ludwig Museum. It's one of the best museums of modern art I've been. It's very close to the Dom (and, as a consequence, to the main train station).
About football game: the time I've been to Cologne I had the "pleasure" of watching a FC Koeln match (I wrote "pleasure" this way because they were just relegated in that match, and it was the last match of Podolsky wearing their jersey). Anyway, checking the http://www.fc-koeln.de/ site, I could find that there will be a match on Feb 23rd OR 25th (I think it still depends on TV-broadcasting choices). You can find the page to buy the tickets at:

In your place, I would wait a bit more to see if they'll decide if the match will be on 23rd or 25th. Once you buy the ticket, it's very easy to get them (in the stadium, some time before the beginning of the match). The city provides a special transportation organization for the event, with trams leaving to the stadium about every 5 minutes, from the center of Cologne.

The Rhine-Energie Stadium is very cool, very organized, safe etc. I liked very much the experience of watching a football match in Germany (actually you can see a picture of my cousin and I at the stadium, at my fotolog page: www.fotolog.com/magopego , it's one of the first pictures).

...and Papa Joe's Jazz Pub is worth a visit, too. So cute, amazing, live band, free nuts to eat, etc...

It's located in the street called Buttermarkt No. 37. It's a 3 minute foot walk from cathedral.

Enjoy your trip!

Travel Tips for Cologne

The camping area is really crowded, so I would recomend to go there at least a pair of days before the festival starts, on wednesday.
We arrived on thursday night and we had many dificulties to put our tent!!

WDM TV Studios

by orlikins

The WDM TV Studios in Tunisstraße has a big balloon of a mouse tied to one of it's pillars. As you do :)

Inside you can walk around the shops that sell little models of this mouse. It seems to be the station's mascot or best-known program, I'm not too sure.

Bus from Cologne to Frankfurt Hahn Airport

by Pakistaniguy

There is a direct bus between Cologne and Frankfurt Hahn airport which is one of the main hub of Ryan Air in Germany. The journey takes 2 Hrs and 15 mins. The first bus leaves at 02.45 am. Be in time at the bus station and you can buy the tickets inside the bus. Don't worry ;-) The ticket costs 15 Euro one way per person.

Pizza Cologne Style

by christine.j about Frueh

I had got very good tips of where to eat, but then we lost track of the time and had to find something fast, so we ended up in Frueh again. We decided to try the pizza à la Cologne. This was a very large potato pancake, topped with tomatoes and melted cheese. It was delicious. An unusual combination, but very good. Add to that one of two Kölsch, and you have a great meal.

Walk along the Rhine

by LizD

Taking a walk along the river is very relaxing. It is very popular with people walking their dogs or pedal cycling. A lot of cargo boats travels up and down and there are quite a few Rhine cruisers and pleasure boats.
