I stayed here on my first trip to Cologne in December 2004 and again in March 2005 and found it to be a very good base for exploring the city. It's in the city centre, just a short walk from the railway station, shops and Cathedral and it's in a quiet sidestreet so there is no traffic noise. The staff were efficient and friendly, the accommodation spotlessly clean, well-equipped and comfortable. The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant although it lacked atmosphere when I was there because I was the only diner. However, the food was very good and reasonably priced.
As with many hotels in Cologne, I think it mainly caters for business guests so at certain times of the year, or during Cologne's many conferences and events, prices can be high. However, I got a 'special rate' of 70 euros a night for a Business Class Kingsize Room, booked directly through the hotel's own website, which was excellent value.
Unique Quality: Central location and comfortable accommodation.
Directions: If arriving by train, exit the station by the main doors, take the street straight ahead (where the taxis are) and keep walking straight until you come to Stolkgasse on your right. The hotel is about 100 yards down on the right.
As Cologne is a major exhibition town, there are a lot of hotels that cater to businessmen. And Lindner Hotel Dom Residence is one of them. This hotel is quite new, with an indoor gym and heated pool. It's a 5 star hotel located close to the Koln Messe and it's only 5 minute's walk to the town center.
