This is probably one of the nicest places to stay in Cologne. This small 18-room hotel is on a narrow cobbled street in the old town. The building itself is new, but in-tune with the old town style, and the modern rooms are very cleverly designed and stylishly decorated and furnished. The hotel backs onto the pedestrian square outside the famous Gross St. Martin church, and the double rooms have bay windows or balconies overlooking the square. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the breakast is excellent. We have stayed here twice now, and on the last occasion (December 2007) paid EUR 129 for a double room including breakfast (subtract EUR 10 per person if you opt out of breakfast). It is a little more than we would normally expect to pay, but we think that it is worth the extra. There are a couple drawbacks to this hotel relating to its location and the nature of the building. The hotel is on a narrow pedestrian street, so don't expect to be able to get a taxi all the way to the front door. Also, the building is tall and narrow, and all the rooms are above the ground floor - there is no lift, so you may have to walk up five filghts to your room.
Old Town location. Stylish modern rooms. Lovely views over Gross St Martin.
