Hotel Domblick.: Very close to the Dom.
What we liked about this hotel was how close it was to everything, a short 10 minute walk and we were at the Dom.
Nice hotel with everything you need, clean rooms and a good buffet style breakfast.
If you are looking for a base to do your Christmas shopping then this is the place for you.

Ayun Hotel and Bar.: An expensive disapointment
Only a few hotels were left to chose from when I finally made reservations, So I chose the Ayun based on description, Price pictures. I was wrong for these reasons:
1. It is on the wrong side of the Rhine, the side with few restaurants, no nightlife, no tourist sites, and a long walk anywhere.
2. No local taxi service, unless you call them by phone.
3. Small room.
4. Extremely small prison style beds.
5. Internet for 5 Euro per hour!
6. No restaurant in the hotel. The closest is 1Km away.
7. No air conditioning.
8. less than 30 meters to the train tracks.
9. They are putting a new exterior on the hotel, so construction noise from 8:30 AM until 5 PM.
The breakfast, especially the rolls, was ok, and they had local beer on tap.

Heideklause: Value hotel near Cologne airport
I was looking round for a hotel close to Cologne airport and was very surprised at how expensive the hotels all appeared to be (on the occaission when I was looking at least). SInce I was arriving at the airport and midnight at only needed 4 hours in a hotel before I would have to leave to check in for my next flight I wasn't keen to spend too much cash on that part if the trip. I then found Hotel Heideklause in Wahn via www.koelntourismus.de
A cab there from the airport was under 20 euro and late at night took around 10 minutes
35 euro for bed and breakast at the hotel and the pleasant lady working there (she spoke good english) gave me a lift to the airport in the morning. The was en suite, instant hot water, clean, warm, comfortable and a tv in the room. Iwould describe it as palacial but it was certainly perfectly adequate and decent value for money.
If you are interested in staying there I suggest you book in advance. The lady at the hotel said they are always busy with airport custom and also from a nearby military base.
Handy for the airport, decent value for money

Im Kupferkessel: Im Kupferkessel
Im Kupferkessel is a small affordable family-run hotel in the center of Cologne. Breakfast is included in the price for the room. I stayed here for two nights. Rooms are nothing special, but clean. Location is good, about 10 minutes walk from the station.
Free breakfast, good location, friendly staff.

Hotel Engelbertz: Great Location
This is a “cozy” and spare place just a few blocks from all the major things you’re going to want to see in Cologne, at perhaps a third the price of most other places in the area. It’s located on one of the pedestrian zone side streets off the main shopping strip, so even the front rooms were quiet. There aren’t any frills, and the view is of the offices across the street, but it’s clean and friendly, the location is great, and the price is right. Nice breakfast spread, too.

SummerJam Camping: SUMMERJAM CAMPING
The Summerjam takes place in Koln, in a lake. There is an island inside the lake and it´s there where the concerts take place.
By the other hand you can camp for FREE in the banks of the lake.
I would recomend to go at least two days before the festival, we arrived only one day before the festival and had difficulties to camp, it was really crowded.
- Lake with bath areas.
- Public Showers: You can have a quick shower, but they are outside and they are shared by both sex. You can have more confident for 3€ but you´ll probably have to wait for more than half an hour.
- Toiltes: There are chemical toilets everywhere, but they are cleaned just once a day, and maybe it´s not enough. You have cleaner ones for 0.50€ but you´ll have to wait for more than half an hour.

Hotel Müller (Mueller): Nice Köln Hotel
The room was large, well-maintained and very clean. Service was excellent, location was very convenient to the train center and sight-seeing.
Breakfast was a large buffet, nicely done with lots of options.
I'd recommend this highly and would try it first on a return to Köln.

Hotel Sabsi: Bed and Make-your-own-coffee-in-the-morning
I didn't have to look for other accommodation options too long. As soon as I realized I'll be travelling to Cologne alone Sabsi offered me to stay at her place. It is not in Cologne at all but in nearby Düsseldorf.
Free flight in green Lupi on the autobahn is included in the package. (Sabsi claims Lupi can't go over 160 km/h but I'm sure we were flying at a speed of at least 297 km/h.)
Here is the the photo of Sabsi's car (Lupi) in one nice neighbourhood in Düsseldorf where hotel Sabsi will move as soon as Sabsi wins the lottery.
Since the hotel serves only Coke for breakfast (how weird is that?) if you want something warm that normal people normally take for breakfast you'll have to make it yourself.
I made coffee with milk and it was great with the breakfast that was already served on the table consisting of fresh bread and half of the food you can buy in nearby supermarket.

Tourist office: Best way to get a cheap luxury room
This is not a hotel, but they have a great room finding service. In the morning, hotels in Cologne put the available rooms on the room finding system. The tourist office has a look for you according to budget, and you get a confirmed booking then and there. Even the youth hostels participate.
The great thing about this is the discounts. I once stayed in a DM 380/night room for DM 90, plus DM 5 roomfinding fee. The finding fee is € 3 now.
Only downside is you have to book a new room each day, for which you'll have to go back to the tourist office.

Renaissance Hotel: Luxury
Most comfortable bed I have ever slept in at a hotel. Plush pillows, 600+ count sheets, down comforter, leather easy chair.
Upon check-in guests are welcome to apples and gummi bears.
The hotel was excellent and the service top notch
The hotel has a nice pool, sauna and steam room. Spa services available on request. The hotel is located along the old city wall and is a 8 min walk to the city center

Hostelling International: Nice Hostel
We felt lucky being able to stay here. It's a very nice & clean hostel. We stayed in a 2 bed room with a bathroom. The only problem we had was opening our window in the room. It seems that the maids locked it, and it was extremely hot. We had such a nice maid, and seemed to become friends with her even though we don't speak any German & she didn't speak any English. I guess we're lucky that sometimes German sounds like English because we were usually able to figure out what she was trying to tell us. It was almost like every time we tried to talk to her it was as though we were playing charades. This hostel is in a great location, too. It's just across the bridge from the center of town, and you can take the train one stop to get there.

Hotel Lemp: Hotel in Porz
Modern hotel in the neighbourhood of Porz.
Certainly, a bit far from the centre of Cologne, more near Cologne/Bonn airport.
Porz Zentrum pedestrian area with shops, Karstadt and market on saturday mornings is across the street.
- Tram line nr. 7 ( aprox. 45 minutes to Cologne) is just some meters away -in fact, some rooms face the tram rails and might be a bit noisy for light-sleepers.
- Porz DB station is also about 5 minutes walking, and S-Bahn takes about 15 minutes to Central Station.
+ Nice and comfortable modern hotel rooms.
+ Great breakfast buffet !
+ Very attentive and friendly staff.

Hotel Trost: Much more than just a place to stay
Located just outside the inner ring, this hotel is in the quiet neighborhood of Ehrenfeld on Vogelsanger Strasse. The rooms are sparse but comfortable. The hosts are very friendly and Herr Trost is a huge Harley Davidson fan!
2 stops from Friesenplatz and 3 from central Cologne make this a good location from which to discover Cologne. Herr Trost speaks good English so he can help you to the gems of the area.

Room wanted: The Best HOTEL SEARCH in internet
In case you cannot find any accomodation searching the webfinders –specially during Fairs– try the Cologne Tourist Office website.
Just check there, mail or call them and they will help you. even if it looks impossible.
In different occasions I went directly at the Tourist OFFICE without any booking: they always managed to find a room for me. This is Germany!
But be patient because they are always extremly busy!
When you go personally they book a room for you directly and give you a map with the address.
