When I was in Cologne, I noticed that there was a significant amount of shopping going on. Not as much as I've seen in other parts of Europe, but definitely the most in Germany. If you like to shop, this city might deserve to be on your itinerary. Of course there were the obvious Dom, some churches, a few chocolate factories, and a beautiful river. I've just got too many darn pictures of the Dom!

Cologne has a great public transportation system but for the city centre and most interesting spots you don't really need it. You can easily walk from one place to the other.
If you want to leave the city center or don't want to walk too much the KVB Website will give you all the information needed!

the monument, the neverending construction work

Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is one of the most well-known architectural monuments in Germany and has been Cologne's most famous landmark for centuries. The cathedral is under the administration of the Roman Catholic Church and is the seat of the Archbishop of Cologne. Construction of the gothic church began in the 13th century and took, with interruptions, more than 600 years to complete. The two towers are 157m tall, the cathedral is 144m long and 86m wide. The cathedral is dedicated to Saints Peter and Mary.
