Somewhere that you could walk to in under 15 minutes that offers food on a friday night around 10pm.
Ideally a bar that does food rather than for a formal sit down meal

I'm logging this to see the replies because I was really disappointed in my trip to Dortmund and would like to see if I was right or just went in the wrong direction. As a brewing centre I expected more and as a city centre from the railway station it was nothing more than a shopping centre. We did find the Hovels brewery and brauhaus which was great but don't ask for directions because we walked all over the place before stumbling on it and out of it! Might be worth finding but let's see what else gets suggested.
There will be even less near this hotel as it is a fair bit away from the city centre. As people will be arriving at the hotel around 10pm we are just looking for a quiet local place... other than hotel bar!
The reason for the trip is to see the football on the saturday so I am sure we can find a few decent bars in the centre on the saturday night.
Munich, dusseldorf, berlin are all known for good nightlife... i work in frankfurt and thats good (in my opinion).

A three night stay for us in Dortmund, in reality only one in town though - late night arrival and also a trip to Köln to see a Waterboys gig so early hours back in town afterwards.
Nevertheless, managed to fit a fair amount into our one day.
