In 2008 the Love parade was celebrated in Dortmund. Originally the love parade is known from Berlin where it first drew hundreds of thousands techno music freaks. These days the love parade takes place in the Ruhrgebiet, each year in a different city.
There is a rhino left over from this event. You will find it when you come out of the main entrance/exit of the Dortmund railway station, cross the street und go up the stairs.
The Propsteikirche is the main catholic church and is dedicated to St. Johann the Baptist. Dominican monks built this church from 1331 when the monastery was founded as well. It took centuries to finish constructing the church. In 1816 the monastery was closed and this church was the first post reformation catholic church. In 1859 it was elevated to Probsteikirche.
In the Second World War it was almost entirely destroyed. Between 1953 and 1966 the church was rebuilt.
