Walking from the train station to the Football stadium?
by christine.j
My husband is going to a football match in the Signal Iduna Stadion in Dortmund and he's trying to decide which train to take for the return trip. Has anyone walked from the DB stop at the Signal Iduna Stadion from the stadium? It's quite close, judging from the map on the website, but is it more a matter of five minutes or rather 10/15 minutes?

Signal Iduna Park - how horrible! The poor Westfalenstadion ;-)))
Anyway. When I travelled by train to football matches in Dortmund I always took the tramway from Hauptbahnhof. Now there is a U-Bahn to the stop Westfalenhalle/Stadion. You can also get there by regional trains (station Westfalenhalle/Signal Iduna Park), from this stop it is only a 3 min walk.
If you want to walk to Hauptbahnhof from the football ground this would rather take you 30 or even 40 minutes.
But as said, regional trains a U-Bahn are so close to the stadium that you get to Hbf in a breeze. It can take, however, quite some time to get out of the stadium, especially if you bzw. hubby sits at the other end, in relation to the train station.

I have near been to Dortmund !
And so I looked on the famous Google Maps and for walking directions and they say it could be 42 minutes.
I don't know how they can estimate this so accurately. What if you have a bad leg or can only walk slow?
Anyway this is the map they give:

Thank you both. I was asking about the DB stop at the stadium, not the main train station. It's a matter of which train to book, and three minutes means we can book the first one, even if he needs five minutes for the walk.

And Sissi, I absolutely agree about the name,Westfalenstadion was much nicer - Signal Iduna reminds me of toothpaste. But it's supposed to be the best stadium in Germany now.

Sure. I would say three minutes from outside the stadium to the DB stop. Getting to the stop from inside the stadium can take up to 20 minutes after a sell-out game. (But a change at Hauptbahnhof is required as you will surely see. Or do ICE trains start at the stadium on match days???)
I am sure the stadium is the best one in Germany. As Westfalenstadion it was already the stadium with the best atmosphere. Kaiserslautern would disagree though ;-)))

Being married to a FCK fan and being the mother of one I agree.

Travel Tips for Dortmund
Christmas market
by yumyum
Every year from the end of November until 23rd December you will find a popular Christmas market in the center of Dortmund. It features more than 300 stalls and of course there are Christmas lights everywhere.
One big attraction is the giant Christmas tree which is made of many normal sized trees. It's the biggest Christmas tree in Germany at least with 45 meters height.
Adlerturm
by yumyum
The Adler tower is a part of the reconstructed city wall which was built in 1990 after plans from 1610. Inside there is a museum about the reconstruction of the tower, the city’s history and middle age construction techniques.
