A&O Hotel Hostel: A&O Hotel Hostel
This is a quite new hotel/hostel just a few blocks from the main station. As the name implies, it offers both hotel rooms and hostel-style dorms in different parts of the building. I booked a single room through www.hrs.com and paid 58 Euros for the first night, 57 for the second, which I found quite reasonable. Breakfast was 4 Euros extra and was well worth the price.
A&O turns out to be a chain which has hotel/hostels in Berlin, Cologne, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, Nürnberg, Prague and Vienna, in addition to Dortmund.
My room was clean, large and quiet. It had its own toilet and shower (and a hair-dryer, by the way) as well as cable television and wireless LAN, neither of which I used. But I did use one of the computers with internet access in the lobby, for a nominal fee.
All their rooms are non-smoking. They also offer bicycle rentals, but these are no longer of interest in Dortmund now that the Metropolradruhr bicycles are available at a lower cost and with less bother and paperwork.

Hilton Dortmund: A Good Business Like Hotel
We stayed here for three nights in June 2011.
The hotel is set up for business users, and so it is rather like any other Hilton hotel in other parts of the world. This is not altogether a bad thing, as the rooms are clean and plenty big enough.
The facilities here are excellent. Breakfast is sumptuous and the local U-bahn station is only a five minute walk away, with a ten minute ride into the city centre.

pension kirchhoff.: centrally located cheap pension.
i stayed at the pension kirchhoff and it was pretty ok.
small basic rooms, but very centrally located and friendly.
a good no thrills option if you just want a cheap place to stay and don´t care about things like private bathroom.
the view from our room was to a scruffy courtyard, but personally i found that quite charming.

Campingplatz Delecke Sudufer am Mohnesee: Ducks and Scenery
Friendly. Very clean, great washing facilities - if you want a hot shower you have to put 1 euro in the slot though. I would definitely recommend this site.
WE paid 18 euros for the night.
Unique Quality: Fantastic views of the lake (we were lucky and we managed to get a space right on the front). If you pay at the shop they will bring you little rolls at breakfast time.
Also there were lots of little ducks who could smell the bread as soon as the lid of the coolbox was open! They probably ate more than we did.....
