The official winter sales were abolished a few years ago, but consumers are still used to them. So the stores will have sales, usually starting fom mid-January on, or even earlier.

Christine is right, the sale has already started :o))
I´ve been to the Altstadt today and all shops have already "sale" signs.
Have a great time & happy new year !
Pat.

Do they still have the August sales, or are they no different then sales anywhere else. I'm not exactly sure why my friend acted as if it was the best shopping in the world, but that is the impression I got from her. 80% off and all that jazz.

AS with the winter sale, the official summer sale has been abolished some years ago. It used to be the last week of July and the first week of August, which would be right now. Many stores still have some kind of summer sale, though I haven't seen 80% off anywhere. You can still get some good bargains, but you have to look around more.

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

Alt Beer

by Gili_S

The Alt Beer is unique for Dusseldorf,
here I am with few other VT members in a sunny afternoon at the Uerige, the most famous beer place in Dusseldorf's.

Knutt, IceBear7, M_Althaus, HORSCHECK, hundertmorgen & sabsi.

Media Port by Night

by sandysmith about Hafen (Media Port)

The Media Port ("Medienhafen") is great by day but is even better at night with the reflections of the Rhine tower and all the lights. It takes on a whole new perspective too with all the trendy bars and nightclubs in this area.

Giant pork chops - Mondays only

by matjung about Cafe Restaurant Bernstein

Besides a good selection of German traditional food which is served every day.
On Monday evening is Schnitzel time.
The restaurant is supplied by its own Butcher.
And on Monday you will get Giant Pork Chops as speciality.
Wednesday evening is dedicated to sweet german style pancakes with a variety of fruits.

I go there about once a month.

The beer with graphefruit is also nice. Giant Pork Chops

Japan-Tag

by dhina

Dusseldorf has the biggest Japanese community in Europe and every year we have Japan-Tag (Japan day) when there is stage performance from Japanese music and Japanese kindergarten performances and some exhibitions about Japan. You can see a lot of people wearing pop-culture-style inspired by manga character...

Landtag

by antistar

After the war, in 1946, Düsseldorf was granted the status as state capital of the newly created region of North Rhine-Westphalia. The state parliament would meet at the Ständehaus, on the other side of the Kniebrücke from the modern buildings that were built between 1982 and 1988 by architects Eller, Maier and Walter. I personally loved the curved and modern lines and parliament, and find it's modern style fits in perfectly with the other buildings under the Rheinturm and in the Media Harbour.
