City Hotel Garni, Dusseldorf by antistar Paper thin walls spoiled what is otherwise an excellent hotel. At least I assume the walls were paper thin, because I could hear every movement made by the clowns in the next room. It wasn't just the tv at full volume, the shouting and the horse laughs that I could here in the night and morning, but also the constant opening and closing of the cupboard door. Other than that the hotel was excellent. Very clean, very comfortable, and very central. It was only a few minutes walk from the main station, and very easy to find. It would have been even more convenient had they not been fully booked the night before, and unable to have my room ready until 1pm, leaving me to wander Düsseldorf for hours. I imagine they were fully booked because of the special deal they had: less than 30 euros for a single room per night! Normally it is more than twice that, but these are the kinds of deals you can get through agencies like HRS (linked below). | Hotel Duesseldorf Mitte: Reasonable price, but somewhat disappointing

In May 2008, I stayed a total of two nights in the Hotel Düsseldorf Mitte. I booked my room through Expedia and paid in advance. For a hotel located in central Düsseldorf, the price was very reasonable. In fact, I paid less for this hotel than any other on my trip. On the plus side, this hotel was within reasonable walking distance from the Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (central train station) -- and it was easy to locate. Inside, the room was fairly large, clean, and well-maintained. Perhaps most importantly, the hotel provides each guest with a card that allows free public transportation throughout Düsseldorf and much of the surrounding Rhine/Ruhr area. On the negative side, though, the service here was somewhat unprofessional. When I arrived, the young woman told me abruptly that it was not yet check-in time -- and that my room wasn't ready. Upon my request, they were willing to let me store my bags behind the front desk. Nevertheless, I perceived her tone of voice as less than completely welcoming. When I later checked in, I was told for the first time that breakfast was not included because I booked through Expedia. Instead, I would have to pay extra if I wanted it. Neither Expedia nor the hotel advised me of this condition beforehand. Because of this last-minute notice, I chose not to eat breakfast at the hotel on either day of my stay. Also, when I checked-out of the hotel, I asked a staff member for train information -- and the reply was that I should ask someone at the information desk in the train station. In my experience, good hotels will usually help provide their guests with transportation advice and directions. With regard to the hotel and room furnishings, I think this hotel tries a little too hard to be fashionable and hip. I guess the stylish theme is in line with Düsseldorf's image as a center of fashion and advertising. For my taste, this attempt to be stylish was somewhat annoying. Others, though, may find it more to their liking. For me, the hotel's most disappointing aspect was its location. While centrally located to the Hauptbahnhof (central train station), it was a bit of a walk to the Altstadt section of the city. If I ever return to Düsseldorf, I would seek accomodation closer to the Altstadt and Rhine River even if the cost is a little higher.

our gracious hosts shows us the way its done by richiecdisc On recent visits to Düsseldorf I’ve been lucky to hole up at Pension Sabsi. It might be a tight squeeze but the balcony antics make up for any lack of space or actual sleep you might get.
The air mattress is quite comfy once you find a place to set it out but the highlight of the flat is the balcony. It must be quite nice in summer but even on a winter's night it's a fine spot for a shot of schnapps! Theme: OtherDirections: A bus from the main train station takes you right to the front door. Which bus was it? Not a clue. ;)

Hotel Manhattan by vec I don't know if I shall call this a hotel. A better description would be "pay and a bed to use". * Shared entrance with a gay cinema * Pink neon light in the roof in the lobby * Rooms for rent per hour * The two bed room had just a 120 cm wide bed. * No breakfast served hmmm... not really what I expected when booking the room at the tourist information office at the central station. But that's maybe what to expect when two male friends ask for a single room to share. Only recently the first hostel was opened in Düsseldorf. I haven't been there yet just read about it in a magazine. So you should try it out!
Beds come from a former U.S. barracks in Fulda! Price 20 Euro with breakfast. Room with lockers. They have a DVD player, kitchen, internet.

Rheinkniebrücke, the hostel is left from the pic by sabsi I have not been inside this hostel but as it is in a very nice location I thought I could give you the details here in case you are searching for a place to stay.
The hostel is in Oberkassel which is the poshest part of town directly at the Rhine (opposite the old town). Just walk over the bridge (Rheinkniebrücke) from the port and you are there. Prices range from 20,70 to 25,30 € (which is quite expensive for a hostel if you ask me ;) Theme: HostelComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Düsseldorfer Str. 1, 40545 Düsseldorf (Oberkassel)Phone: +49 (0)2 11 - 55 73 10Directions: Take subway 70, 74, 75, 76, 77 to Luegplatz and walk a kilometre along the Rhine. There's a bus from "Landtag" (No. 835 or 836, direction Oberkassel) as well. The bus stop is called "Jugendherberge"Website: http://www.jugendherberge.de/jh/duesseldorf/
