Attending the Motor Home Show!

by AutumnRose

Having toured along the Rhein from heidelberg to Dusseldorf we are aiming to attend the motorhome show in the city, near the end of August at the Exhbition Centre there.

Which would be the best hotel to stay in? We have a car, but it would be good to be on the right side of town for the show.

We are looking for a good three or four star hotel.

Many thanks,

I would first check what is available at all. Normally during fairs the hotels are well booked in advance.

What is the date and location of the Motor Home Show?

Caravan Saloon Düsseldorf 24.08.-02.09.2007

IAA Frankfurt 15.-23.09.2007 (the most important of all)

Essen Motor Show 30.11.-09.12.2007

Many thanks. Yes I am finding a lot of hotels already full for the show - begins 25th August. I am having to compromise between a central location with paces to eat but car parking problems and access to the exhibition ground.

Public transport to/from the exhibition ground is covered by the admission tickets.

I will be travelling to Dusseldorf Hbf via S-Bahn from Cologne (Longerich). How do I get to the show from Dusseldorf Hbf?

DB timetable
From: Koeln-Longerich
To: Messe Nordeingang, Duesseldorf

Travel Tips for Düsseldorf

My first impression of...

by sharonn

My first impression of Dusseldorf was its a very pretty city. In the evening it looks very picturesque near the Rhine. I have since investigated what to do in DD and found there is quite a bit going on!!! Not really fondest but it has rained pretty much nearly every day since i have been here - just this time of year i suppose!

Update - May 23rd 1968 - Ah! the sun has decided to shine for Sharon's birthday!

In memory of SS-victims

by sjazeerah

I found a memorial tablet at this house by chance and didn't even know about that before.

Inside this house there was a branch of the SS (Schutzstaffel) starting from 1933. Enemies of the Nationalsocialism were mistreated in cruelsomest manner HERE inside the torturing-cellars and taken to concentration camps afterwards.

Nowadays a part of the academy of art is accomodated inside this building.

Reuterkaserne, corner Eiskellerstrasse (academy of art).
Walk along the Rhine from old town northward (follow the direction of the water. Turn right into Reuterkaserne when you see grass with large stones. go straight to the end.

Newcomer of the Year

by IceBear7 about Kappeshamm

A wonderful coincedence that KAPPESHAMM is just 5 minutes away from my apartment. Opened only recently but they already have crowds coming in even on a ordinary monday night. great food, really nice staff, basic interior and decoration combined with fresh flowers and a chandelier. The huge table underneath the chandelier is great for a group of around 15 people.
This could become one of my favorite restaurants/ pubs in Düsseldorf. Überbackene Maultaschen in leckerem Gemüse!! (difficult to translate, sorry)

The history of Apollo Theater

by wilde13

The Apollo Variety is a widely known variety with monthly changing programme.
The Apollo has a great history in the city night life. So they build a big amusement building at the Kö.
There is a little exhibition about that Apollo, with old pictures and how it was looking like. The theme might be interesting for people, who wish to know more about Duesseldorf.

Rhine River Promenade

by TinyTuck

Strolling around the new Rhine River promenade is quite relaxing and entertaining. It's a great spot for people watching, since all the different types of people come here! And of course you can go for some Altbier too...
